A HBO MAX colocou em streaming neste final de semana a nova versão de O PAI DA NOIVA, dirigido pelo cineasta mexicano Gary Alazraki. O original, estrelado por Steve Martin e Diane Keaton é de 1991.
A refilmagem ganhou sentido pela modernização da história e pela ampliação de seu espectro, introduzindo temas como a diversidade racial e sexual e os problemas migratórios entre México e Estados Unidos.
A narrativa desta vez é centrada na Família Herrera, vinda de Cuba e formada pelo arquiteto Billy (Andy Garcia), sua esposa Ingrid (Gloria Estefan) e as duas filhas, Sofia (Adria Arjona) e Cora (isabela Merced). O noivo em questão, Adan (Diego Boneta) é da Família Castillo, dona de cervejarias e um clube de futebol no México. Eles são o pai Hernan (Pedro Damián), sua ex-esposa Marcela (Laura Harring) e a atual esposa Julieta (Macarena Achaga).
Para complicar as coisas, depois de um ano de terapia de casal, Ingrid pediu o divórcio para Billy e eles estão em dificuldade para comunicar às filhas quando Sofia chega com a notícia do noivado e do casamento próximo.
No melhor estilo de comédia romântica esta versão de FATHER OF THE BRIDE sabe construir sua história alternando momentos cômicos ótimos com cenas emotivas e dramáticas.
O charme dos atores e atrizes (todos muito bem em seus papéis) segura o ritmo do filme proporcionando diversão e entretenimento ao espectador.
Miami, linda como sempre, com sua explosão de cores e de etnias serve como um pano de fundo belíssimo para o filme. Há cenas de tirar o fôlego.
Acho que esta refilmagem se justificou perfeitamente. É inteligente, bem feita, divertida e sensível.

Miami, beautiful as ever, with its explosion of color and ethnicity serves as a beautiful backdrop for the film. There are several breathtaking scenes.
I think this remake was perfectly justified. It’s smart, well-made, fun and sensitive.
