O filme TILL – A BUSCA POR JUSTIÇA (2022), baseado na história real de Mamie Till-Mobley, uma educadora e ativista, nos mergulha no passado doloroso da história americana, destacando a coragem de uma mãe que escolheu lutar por justiça para seu filho Emmett, de 14 anos, assassinado em agosto de 1955. 

 A diretora e roteirista Chinonye Chukwu, 37 anos, nascida na Nigéria, neste seu terceiro longa-metragem, consegue cativar com uma encenação sóbria e comovente.

Uma jovem viúva criando seu filho de 14 anos sozinha, Mamie Till também é a única mulher negra trabalhando para a Força Aérea dos Estados Unidos em Chicago. Quando Emmett é assassinado por supostamente assobiar para uma mulher branca no Mississippi em 1955, Mamie abala as consciências ao insistir, durante o funeral, que o caixão de seu filho permaneça aberto e que o público entenda o horror que ele sofreu. Um gesto forte para recusar a opressão e o ódio. Ela também dá a uma revista o direito exclusivo de publicar fotos de seu filho mutilado, para que o mundo inteiro se comova com esse linchamento particularmente atroz.

A atriz Danielle Deadwyler encarna brilhantemente Mamie Till, demonstrando todo o seu talento na representação dessa mãe corajosa, que escolheu lutar por justiça para seu filho. 

A atuação de Whoopi Goldberg (uma das produtoras do filme) como Alma Carthan, mãe de Mamie e avó do garoto assassinado, também dá profundidade à história.

The film TILL (2022), based on the true story of Mamie Till-Mobley, an educator and activist, plunges us into the painful past of American history, highlighting the courage of a mother who chose to fight for justice for her son Emmett, age 14, murdered in August 1955.

Director and screenwriter Chinonye Chukwu, 37 years old, born in Nigeria, in her third feature film, manages to captivate with a sober and moving staging.

A young widow raising her 14-year-old son alone, Mamie Till is also the only black woman working for the United States Air Force in Chicago. When Emmett is murdered for allegedly whistling at a white woman in Mississippi in 1955, Mamie shakes consciences by insisting, during the funeral, that her son’s coffin remain open and that the public understand the horror he suffered. A strong gesture to refuse oppression and hatred. She also gives a magazine the exclusive right to publish photos of her mutilated son, so that the whole world will be moved by this particularly atrocious lynching.
