Por insistência de vários amigos, fui ver os primeiros capítulos da série GODFATHER OF HARLEM (2019), que vai ter sua terceira temporada lançada este ano. Cada season tem 10 capítulos. A trama seria uma espécie de “prequel” para o filme AMERICAN GANGSTER (2007), de Ridley Scott, com Denzel Washington e Russel Crowe.
Forrest Whitaker, sempre um ator extraordinário, vive o gângster Ellswoth “Bumpy”Johnson que sai da penitenciária e volta para o Harlem, onde reassume sua família, comparsas e crimes.
Não há dúvida de que estamos diante de uma produção impecável.
O elenco é espetacular: além de Whitaker, Vincent D’Onofrio, Giancarlo Esposito, Chazz Palmintieri, Paul Sorvino, Nigel Tatsch, Lucy Fry, Ilfenesh Hadera e Antoinette Crowe-Legacy.
Um dos tantos acertos da série é misturar a trama central da luta pelo poder entre as quadrilhas com fatos verdadeiros da luta contra o racismo e pelos direitos civis que inflamou os Estados Unidos nos anos sessenta. São memoráveis as cenas e os diálogos a respeito.
Agradeço muito a recomendação e irei “degustar” capítulo a capítulo, esta série muito acima da média.

Forrest Whitaker, always an extraordinary actor, lives the gangster Ellswoth “Bumpy” Johnson who leaves the penitentiary and returns to Harlem, where he resumes his family, cronies and crimes.
There is no doubt that we are facing an impeccable production.
The cast is spectacular: in addition to Whitaker, Vincent D’Onofrio, Giancarlo Esposito, Chazz Palmintieri, Paul Sorvino, Nigel Tatsch, Lucy Fry, Ilfenesh Hadera and Antoinette Crowe-Legacy.
One of the many successes of the series is to mix the central plot of the struggle for power between gangs with true facts of the fight against racism and civil rights that inflamed the United States in the sixties. The scenes and dialogues about it are memorable.
Thank you very much for the recommendation and I will “taste” chapter by chapter, this series far above average.
