Aluguei na Apple TV+, o filme HYPNOTIC, que o texano Robert Rodriguez dirigiu com Ben Affleck e Alice Braga.
Um policial da cidade de Austin, Texas é traumatizado com o sequestro de sua filha em um parque da cidade, por um pedófilo que se recusa a dizer onde ela está, ou se está viva. A tragédia encerrou o casamento dele e dificulta sua profissão de detetive.
Quatro anos depois, ao investigar um roubo a banco, ele se depara com um homem que diz saber onde ela está.
O que parecia um filme policial normal, jamais o seria com roteiro e direção de Robert Rodriguez.
Em determinado momento do filme, entram em cena as pessoas hypnotics, uma espécie de sensitivos que tem o dom de, com um olhar e poucas palavras, determinar o que os outros vão fazer. Eles estariam unidos em uma agência governamental que busca encontrar a filha desaparecida do protagonista.
A virada é tão grande que o filme muda de gênero. deixa de ser um policial e passa a ser um filme de ficção científica. Bem ao estilo Rodriguez de fazer cinema.
Nada (e ninguém) é o que parece. Os hypnotics fazem você vê-los como outras pessoas. Não se sabe mais quem é quem.
Confesso que gosto do cinema de Rodriguez. A gente não tem um só momento de tédio.
Outra qualidade do filme é a brasileira Alice Braga. Embora desde muito jovem (CIDADE DE DEUS) já fosse uma presença cênica interessante, ela cada vez assume mais protagonismo e atua com desenvoltura. Sua personagem é um dos destaques de HYPNOTIC.
Ben Affleck, que por vezes atua muito bem, como em ARGO e AIR, aqui está no modo automático, entre o Batman da DC Comics e o marido maluquete de GONE GIRL. Não achei um bom trabalho.
O elenco de apoio tem bons nomes: William Fichtner, Jeff Fahey, Jack Earle Bailey e J D Pardo.
HYPNOTIC certamente não cairá no gosto de todos.
Mas na minha opinião, dentro do jeito Rodriguez de fazer cinema, é um filme bem interessante.

What looked like a normal crime movie, would never be with a script and direction by Robert Rodriguez.
At a certain point in the film, hypnotic people appear on the scene, a kind of sensitive who have the gift of, with a look and a few words, determining what others are going to do. They would be united in a government secret agency that seeks to find the missing daughter of the protagonist.
The twist is so great that the film changes genres. it stops being a cop and becomes a science fiction movie. In the Rodriguez style of filmmaking.
Nothing (and no one) is what it seems. Hypnotics make you see them as other people. It is no longer known who is who.
I confess that I like Rodriguez’s cinema. We don’t have a single dull moment.
Another quality of the film is the Brazilian Alice Braga. Although she was already an interesting scenic presence from a very young age (CITY OF GOD), she increasingly assumes a leading role and performs with ease. Her character is one of the highlights of HYPNOTIC.
Ben Affleck, who sometimes acts very well, as in ARGO and AIR, is here in automatic mode, between DC Comics’ Batman and GONE GIRL‘s crazy husband. I didn’t think it was a good job.
The supporting cast has good names: William Fichtner, Jeff Fahey, Jack Earle Hailey and J D Pardo.
HYPNOTIC will certainly not be to everyone’s taste.
But in my opinion, within the Rodriguez way of making cinema, it is a very interesting film.
