Shriver é Michael Shannon, provavelmente em seu melhor trabalho. Ele deixa o espectador na dúvida se seria ele mesmo ou um homônimo do famoso escritor equivocadamente convidado pela feira. Delirante ou farsante?
Kate Hudson faz a professora (e dublê de escritora) Simone Cleary que apostou tudo na presença de Shriver.
Há uma galeria de tipos hilários e muito bem concebidos: um professor alcoólatra e desiludido que anda a cavalo pelo campus (Don Johnson), um detetive local que vai investigar o sumiço de uma poetisa (Jimmi Simpson), a própria poetisa feminista fujona (Aja Naomi King), um professor saudosista dos anos de glória do evento (M.Emmet Walsh), uma fã apaixonada de Shriver (Da’Vine Joy Randolph), uma cheerleader sedutora (Peyton List), uma ginecologista rica que faz vultosas doações para a Feira Literária apenas para levar os convidados para a cama (Wendy Malick) e um sujeito que diz ser o verdadeiro Shriver (Zach Braff).
Eu me diverti muito com o filme. Acho que ele faz um humor bem interessante com relação a eventos culturais, escritores em crise criativa, o homem errado e frustrações que o tempo não cura.
Quando o filme se torna mais dramático, ele também funciona, mas sem a mesma qualidade.
O melhor de LITTLE WHITE LIE é sua comicidade espontânea.

A literary fair at a small university in the interior of the USA is about to close due to the lack of famous writers willing to go there. Behold, unexpectedly, the consecrated and reclusive Shriver accepts the invitation.
Shriver is Michael Shannon, probably in his best work. He leaves the spectator in doubt as to whether he was really the Famous Shriver or a namesake of the famous writer mistakenly invited to the fair. Delusional or fake?
Kate Hudson plays teacher (and stunt writer) Simone Cleary who has staked everything on Shriver’s presence.
There’s a gallery of hilariously well-conceived characters: a disillusioned alcoholic professor who rides a horse across campus (Don Johnson), a local detective investigating the disappearance of a poet (Jimmi Simpson), the runaway feminist poet herself (Aja Naomi King), a professor nostalgic for the event’s glory years (M.Emmet Walsh), a passionate Shriver fan (Da’Vine Joy Randolph), a seductive cheerleader (Peyton List), a wealthy gynecologist who makes huge donations to the Book fair just to get the guests into bed (Wendy Malick) and a guy who claims to be the real Shriver (Zach Braff).
I had a lot of fun with the movie. I think he makes some really interesting humor about cultural events, writers in creative crisis, the wrong man and frustrations that time won’t heal.
When the film becomes more dramatic, it also works, but without the same quality.
The best thing about LITTLE WHITE LIE is its spontaneous humor.
