A Apple TV+ está exibindo o filme UNDERRATED, de Peter Nicks, um documentário sobre a extraordinária história do jogador de basquete Stephen Curry, quatro vezes campeão da NBA e recordista de cestas de três pontos da história do esporte. O produtor é Ryan Coogler, de BLACK PANTHER e CREED.
Curry sempre foi um jovem franzino. A leitura do relatório feito durante seu draft para a NBA é chocante. Quem ouve aquele texto pessimista jamais escolheria Curry, futuro Hall da Fama e um dos maiores de todos os tempos.
Mas o filme – com um material cinematográfico incrível – mostra os jogos de Curry desde os nove anos de idade. Imagens incríveis.
A obsessão do menino em ser jogador de basquete, o engajamento dos pais e a carreira dele poderiam ser uma linda história de ficção sobre trabalho e determinação. Só que real.
A ida para a pequena e desconhecida Universidade de Davidson e os ensinamentos do técnico Bob McKillop, o passo a passo de seu crescimento, forjado em derrotas muito dolorosas, mas que colocaram Curry e Davidson no panorama nacional do basquete universitário.
O pedido da mãe para que ele concluísse a faculdade e as cenas da recente formatura dele são emocionantes. Sobretudo pela gratidão que ele expressa aos colegas, à Universidade e, muito especialmente, ao técnico McKillop.
Já tínhamos vários indícios de que Stephen Curry, alem de um jogador extraordinário, é um ser humano diferenciado.
UNDERRATED confirma isso. E de quebra é cinema documental da melhor qualidade.

Curry has always been a slight young man. Reading the report made during his NBA draft is shocking. Anyone who hears that pessimistic text would never choose Curry, the future Hall of Famer and one of the greatest of all time.
But the film – with incredible cinematic material – shows Curry’s games from the age of nine. Amazing images.

The move to the small and unknown University of Davidson and the teachings of coach Bob McKillop, the step by step of his growth, forged in very painful defeats, but which placed Curry and Davidson on the national panorama of college basketball.
His mother’s request for him to complete college and the scenes of his recent graduation are emotional. Especially for the gratitude he expresses to his colleagues, the University and, most especially, coach McKillop.
