BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S, dirigido por Blake Edwards, em 1961, com Audrey Hepburn e George Peppard segue sendo um dos mais bem sucedidos filmes de todos os tempos no gênero da comédia romântica.
A primeira vez que assisti BONEQUINHA DE LUXO foi em um cinema da praia de Capão da Canoa. Eu devia ter uns seis anos de idade. Claro que uma comédia romântica (ainda mais tão cheia de nuances e detalhes) não foi exatamente a minha praia. Mas lembro até hoje que o fato da linda mocinha guardar os sapatos na geladeira me impressionaram vivamente.
Holly Golightly, personagem imortal da atriz Audrey Hepburn é uma ex-acompanhante de luxo que sonha se casar com um homem rico e se transformar em atriz de cinema e por isso se muda para Nova Iorque. Ela é sustentada por Sally Tomato um mafioso preso em Sing Sing, onde ela vai todas as quintas-feiras. Tem um misterioso irmão chamado Fred, constantemente citado por ela. Quando ela se envolve com um vizinho escritor (Paul), os planos de vida futura dela estão ameaçados.
Baseado livremente em um livro de Truman Capote, BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S, dirigido por Blake Edwards é daqueles filmes em que tudo deu certo. Audrey estava no auge de sua beleza, charme e classe como atriz. O roteiro de George Axelrod é uma sucessão de cenas antológicas, cômicas, inteligentes e românticas, que se tornaram inspiração para dezenas de filmes depois.
Blake Edwards um cineasta nascido em Tulsa, Oaklahoma, tinha alguma experiência mas fez aqui o primeiro mega sucesso de sua carreira, onde viria a se tornar uma marca: PANTERA COR DE ROSA, UM CONVIDADO BEM TRAPALHÃO, A CORRIDA DO SÉCULO, MULHER NOTA DEZ e VITOR OU VITÓRIA, apenas para citar alguns trabalhos memoráveis. Ganhou um Oscar honorário, um César, um David di Donatello e três prêmios da Associação de Roteirista da América (ele era um exímio roteirista).
O filme ainda teve na belíssima trilha sonora, Audrey Hepburn cantando MOON RIVER, canção de Johnny Mercer e Henry Mancini, considerada uma das melhores canções americanas da história.
No elenco, além de Hepburn, George Pepard, Patricia Neal, Buddy Ebsen, Martin Balsam e Mickey Rooney (antológico como Mr. Yunioshi).
Se um dia você estiver justificadamente deprimido pelo noticiário, pare tudo e veja outra vez (espero) BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S. Sem dúvida, a vida irá parecer muito melhor. Audrey Hepburn era magia pura.

BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S, directed by Blake Edwards in 1961, with Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard, remains one of the most successful films of all time in the romantic comedy genre.
The first time I saw BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S it was at a cinema on Capão da Canoa beach. I must have been six years old. Of course, a romantic comedy (even more so full of nuances and details) wasn’t exactly my thing. But I remember to this day that the fact that the pretty girl kept her shoes in the fridge made a strong impression on me.
Holly Golightly, actress Audrey Hepburn‘s immortal character, is a former luxury escort who dreams of marrying a rich man and becoming a movie actress, which is why she moves to New York. She is supported by Sally Tomato, an imprisoned mobster in Sing Sing, where she goes every Thursday. She has a mysterious brother called Fred, constantly mentioned by her. When she gets involved with a writer neighbor (Paul), her future life plans are threatened.
Loosely based on a book by Truman Capote, BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S is one of those films where everything works out. Audrey was at the height of her beauty, charm and class as an actress. George Axelrod’s script is a succession of anthological, comic, intelligent and romantic scenes, which became inspiration for dozens of films later.
Blake Edwards, a filmmaker born in Tulsa, Oaklahoma, had some experience but made the first mega-hit of his career here, where he would become a brand: PINK PANTHER, THE PARTY, THE RACE OF THE CENTURY, TEN and VITOR OR VITÓRIA, just to name a few memorable works. He won an honorary Oscar, a César, a David di Donatello, and three Screenwriters Association of America awards (he was an accomplished screenwriter).
The film also had the beautiful soundtrack, Audrey Hepburn singing MOON RIVER, a song by Johnny Mercer and Henry Mancini, considered one of the best American songs in history.

If one day you’re justifiably depressed by the news, stop everything and rewatch (hopefully) BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S. Without a doubt, life will look much better. Audrey Hepburn was pure magic.
