Está em cartaz no HULU, o filme de ficção científica SIMULANT, dirigido pela cineasta canadense April Mullen, do interessante drama erótico BELOW YOUR MOUTH.
O filme é uma tentativa de contar uma história a la BLADE RUNNER, a obra prima de Ridley Scott.
Claro que nunca chega perto.
Num futuro próximo, as pessoas encomendam e compram andróides de uma empresa. Eles vêm com uma programação que tem quatro regras: nunca machucar um humano, nunca tentar mudar sua programação, nunca violar uma norma e sempre obedecer os humanos.
Um casal sofre uma tragédia logo depois de encomendar dois andróides (um de cada um).
Fica muito claro, desde o inicio que o marido Evan (Robbie Amell) morreu no acidente e o que anda pela casa é um simulant. A esposa Faye (Jordana Brewster) tenta por todas as formas colocar o robô no lugar do marido.
Quando ela não consegue, o simulant do marido passa a tentar conquistar o amor dela.
Aí surge Casey (Sim Liu), um hacker que modifica os simulados, retirando suas barreiras.
Para complicar tudo, há uma agência que caça simulados desobedientes, na qual se destaca o caçador Kessler (Sam Worthington).
A produção é muito boa e a gente acompanha a história com interesse.
Mas aos poucos vai ficando claro que histórias de robôs que querem ter liberdade e sentimentos podem gerar obras primas perfeitas (BLADE RUNNER) ou filmes apenas razoáveis (SIMULANT).
SIMULANT ainda tenta um twist final, mas ele é facilmente descoberto bem antes de acontecer.
Fazer um BLADE RUNNER é para poucos.

The film is an attempt to tell a story a la BLADE RUNNER, Ridley Scott‘s masterpiece.
Of course it never comes close.
In the near future, people order and buy androids from a company. They come with programming that has four rules: never hurt a human, never try to change their programming, never violate a norm, and always obey humans.
A couple suffers a tragedy shortly after ordering two androids (one of each).
It is very clear from the beginning that her husband Evan (Robbie Amell) died in the accident and what is walking around the house is a simulant. Wife Faye (Jordana Brewster) tries in every way to put the robot in her husband’s place.
When she can’t, her husband’s simulant starts trying to win her love.
Then Casey (Sim Liu) appears, as a hacker who modifies the simulants, removing their barriers.
To complicate everything, there is an agency that hunts disobedient simulators, in which hunter Kessler (Sam Worthington) stands out.
The production is very good and we follow the story with interest.
But little by little it becomes clear that stories about robots that want to have freedom and feelings can generate perfect masterpieces (BLADE RUNNER) or merely reasonable films (SIMULANT).
SIMULANT even attempts a final twist, but it is easily discovered well before it happens.
Making a BLADE RUNNER is for few.
