Incrível que já faz 40 anos que o filme OS ELEITOS, de Phillip Kaufman foi lançado nos cinemas.
Já contei aqui que vi a primeira vez a obra maestra de Kaufman, em uma Mostra Internacional de São Paulo, lá pelos idos de 1983. Nosso grupo estava hipnotizado vendo filmes pequenos e autorais de todas as latitudes do mundo, quando, em um certo domingo pela manhã, no gigantesco cine Metrópole, a tela se iluminou e o som da orquestra conduzida por Bill Conti (uma trilha espetacular) invadiu nosso sentidos. Estávamos diante do melhor do cinemão hollywoodiano, feito por um cineasta diferenciado.
Phillip Kaufman tem em seu currículo grandes filmes: A INSUSTENTÁVEL LEVEZA DO SER, HENRY & JUNE, A GANG DA PESADA e QUILLS, entre outros. Foram apenas 13 filmes dirigidos por ele.
Acho que OS ELEITOS é o melhor de todos. O roteiro, simplesmente impecável, escrito em parceria com o mítico Tom Wolfe (a partir do livro deste), é a base de tudo.
São três horas de uma história incrível (o Projeto Mercury da NASA, auge da corrida contra os russos pela conquista do espaço), magnificamente filmada, com um elenco espetacular e uma música inesquecível.
Sam shard (seu melhor papel no cinema), Dennis Quaid, Ed Harris, Scott Glen, Barbara Hershey, Fred Ward, Pamela Reed e muitos outros atores ótimos encarnaram os personagens.
OS ELEITOS tem muitas cenas antológicas.
Até hoje não me saem da mente um diálogo entre os personagens de Barbara Hershey e Sam Shepard onde ela fala de sonhos abandonados ou a magnífica cena da dança em paralelo com Chuck Jaeger tentando quebrar o recorde de velocidade em um avião.
OS ELEITOS, além de tudo tem um título original perfeito.
Era mesmo a coisa certa.
It’s incredible that it’s been 40 years since Phillip Kaufman‘s film THE RIGHT STUFF was released in theaters.
I already said here that I saw Kaufman’s master work for the first time, at an International Exhibition in São Paulo, back in 1983. Our group was mesmerized watching small, authorial films from all over the world, when, on a certain Sunday In the morning, at the gigantic Metrópole cinema, the screen lit up and the sound of the orchestra conducted by Bill Conti (a spectacular score) invaded our senses. We were in front of the best of Hollywood cinema, made by a distinguished filmmaker.
Phillip Kaufman has great films to his credit: THE UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS OF BEING, HENRY & JUNE, THE WANDERERS and QUILLS, among others. There were only 13 films directed by him.
I think THE RIGHT STUFF is the best of all. The script, simply impeccable, written in partnership with the mythical Tom Wolfe (from his book), is the basis of everything.
It’s three hours of an incredible story (NASA’s Project Mercury, the height of the race against the Russians to conquer space), magnificently filmed, with a spectacular cast and unforgettable music.
Sam Shepard (his best film role), Dennis Quaid, Ed Harris, Scott Glen, Barbara Hershey, Fred Ward, Pamela Reed and many other great actors played the characters.
THE RIGHT STUFF has many anthological scenes.
To this day, a dialogue between Barbara Hershey and Sam Shepard‘s characters where she talks about abandoned dreams or the magnificent dance scene in parallel with Chuck Jaeger trying to break the speed record in an airplane never leaves my mind.
THE RIGHT STUFF, besides everything, has a perfect original title.
It really was the right thing.
