Um empresário septuagenário está com seu negócio de empresas funerárias sob ameaça de falência, quando entabula negociações para vender parte das empresas para uma corporação gigante do setor. Depois de fechado, o negócio empaca e ele resolve ir à Justiça demandar contra a compradora.
Aí ele conhece um jovem e exitoso advogado da área de acidentes de trânsito que faz uma advocacia bem peculiar, baseada totalmente em seu talento pessoal em fascinar os jurados.
Será que a aliança dos dois vai ser suficiente para derrubar o exército de advogados da outra parte?
A gente vê o filme com muita atenção, acho que principalmente pelo talento explícito da dupla central: Jamie Foxx é um dos atores com mais carisma de sua geração. Aqui, seu Willie Gary é incrível.
Tommy Lee Jones é um veterano ator que encarna como poucos um personagem deprimido e taciturno como o desesperado Jeremiah O’Keefe.
O elenco ainda tem Alan Ruck, Jurnee Smollett, Pamela Reed e Mamoudou Athie.
Detectei uma certa ingenuidade na trama que a gente advinha onde vai parar.
Mas como o filme é baseado em um fato real da justiça americana (as fotos do Wllie e Jeremiah reais aparecem nos créditos finais), não há como duvidar do desfecho.
Trata-se de um drama de tribunal old fashion. Sem surpresas, mas bem feito.

A septuagenarian businessman has his funeral business under threat of bankruptcy, when he enters negotiations to sell part of the companies to a giant corporation in the sector. After closing, the deal stalls and he decides to go to court to sue the buyer.
There he meets a young and successful lawyer in the area of traffic accidents who does a very peculiar practice, based entirely on his personal talent for fascinating jurors.
Will their alliance be enough to take down the other party’s army of lawyers?
We watch the film with great attention, I think mainly due to the explicit talent of the central duo: Jamie Foxx is one of the most charismatic actors of his generation. His Willie Gary here is amazing.
Tommy Lee Jones is a veteran actor who embodies a depressed and taciturn character like the desperate Jeremiah O’Keefe like few others.
The cast also includes Alan Ruck, Jurnee Smollett, Pamela Reed and Mamoudou Athie.
I detected a certain naivety in the plot that made us guess where it would end up.
But as the film is based on a real event in American justice (photos of the real Wllie and Jeremiah appear in the final credits), there is no doubting the outcome.
It’s an old-fashioned courtroom drama. No surprises, but well done.
