Dennis Podalydes é Phillip, um escritor americano que mora em Londres e tem um caso amoroso com a bela personagem de Léa Seydoux, cujo nome nunca é dito ao longo do filme.
Os dois costumam ter ardentes tardes de amor no escritório do escritor, onde supostamente ele está escrevendo seu próximo romance.
Além dos encontros e conversas dos dois amantes, o filme mostra o relacionamento de Phillip com sua esposa e com duas ex-amantes de sua vida pregressa.
O roteiro é muito bem escrito e nos proporciona excelentes diálogos sobre o adultério e os motivos de Phillip, mesclando isso com a criação literária em andamento.
Há uma cena – brilhante diga-se – de um ficcional julgamento de Phillip pela forma como trata as mulheres, seja em seus livros, seja na vida real.
DECEPTION adota um tom melancólico, ajudado pela sombria e tímida paisagem londrina onde os dois amantes se encontram.

The two often have passionate afternoons of love in the writer’s office, where he is supposedly writing his next novel.
In addition to the meetings and conversations between the two lovers, the film shows Phillip’s relationship with his wife and two ex-lovers from his previous life.
The script is very well written and provides us with excellent dialogues about adultery and Phillip’s motives, mixing this with the literary creation in progress.
There is a brilliant scene, let’s say, of a fictional trial of Phillip for the way he treats women, whether in his books or in real life.
DECEPTION adopts a melancholic tone, helped by the dark and shy London landscape where the two lovers meet.
It is a beautiful drama.
