Martin (Diego Torres) e Sol (Julieta Zylberberg) são um casal de músicos financeiramente quebrados, em conflito permanente pelos seus sonhos e a dura realidade das contas do final do mês. Ele é um compositor e maestro clássico que ganha a vida como pianista em festas de casamento. Ela é uma ótima cantora que sonhava ter uma banda de rock, mas vive cantando nas mesmas festas de gosto duvidoso e hotéis que lhes pagam misérias.
Para complicar, ela quer casar e ele – pressionado pelas dívidas – sequer vislumbra isso a curto prazo. Ela fica grávida e teme contar a ele neste momento.
Uma guinada na trama acresce muito ao filme. Barulhos misteriosos vindos do paramento de cima fazem Sol suspeitar que um crime foi cometido. Ela fica obcecada pelo fato para desespero de Martin, preocupado com o dia a dia.
O perfeito entendimento entre Torres e Zylberberg faz do filme uma deliciosa película a ser degustada com calma pelo cinéfilo. Há citações aos montes (Janela Indiscreta, é claro como o maior de todos) e piadas excelentes sobre as atividades dos dois detetives amadores no cenário de um crime real.
Em meio a isso, o filme se permite ser romântico em alto nível, como na cena em que o casal executa a clássica STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT, no mais perfeito espanhol e com Sol vestida de vermelho (lembrando Michelle Pfeiffer em THE FABULOUS BAKER BOYS). Uma cena belíssima.
O cinema argentino está cada vez melhor. Quando faz um grande filme acerta no alvo. Quando faz filmes menores (em pretensão e recursos, inclusive) consegue ser muito eficaz.
EXTRAÑOS EN LA NOCHE é divertido, criativo e se constitui em entretenimento ótimo.
Martin (Diego Torres) and Sol (Julieta Zylberberg) are a couple of financially broke musicians, in permanent conflict over their dreams and the harsh reality of the end-of-the-month bills. He is a classical composer and conductor who makes a living as a pianist at wedding parties. She is a great singer who dreamed of having a rock band, but lives singing at the same dubious parties and hotels that pay them miserly money.
To complicate matters, she wants to get married and he – pressured by debt – doesn’t even see it happening in the short term. She becomes pregnant and fears telling him at this point.
A twist in the plot adds a lot to the film. Mysterious noises coming from above make Sol suspect that a crime has been committed. She becomes obsessed with the fact, much to the despair of Martin, who is worried about his daily life.
The perfect understanding between Torres and Zylberberg makes the film a delicious film to be enjoyed calmly by cinephiles. There are quotes aplenty (Rear Window, of course as the greatest of them all) and excellent jokes about the activities of the two amateur detectives at the scene of a real crime.
In the midst of this, the film allows itself to be romantic at a high level, as in the scene in which the couple performs the classic STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT, in the most perfect Spanish and with Sol dressed in red (reminiscent of Michelle Pfeiffer in THE FABULOUS BAKER BOYS). A very beautiful scene.
Argentine cinema is getting better and better. When he makes a great film it hits the target. When he makes smaller films (in terms of pretension and resources, even) he can be very effective.
EXTRAÑOS EN LA NOCHE is fun, creative and makes for great entertainment.
