A NETFLIX colocou no ar a série de oito episódios A GRANDE ILUSÃO, outro título nacional desastrado para FOOL ME ONCE (ENGANE-ME UMA VEZ), trama originada em um livro de sucesso do escritor Harlan Coben.
Anos atrás, quando o livro foi lançado, li em algum lugar que a atriz e produtora Julia Roberts tinha adquirido os direitos e iria fazer um filme com a história. Comprei o livro e li em um ou dois dias. A história é realmente muito boa. Acho que Julia se desinteressou, porque nunca mais ouvi falar do assunto.
Ao melhor estilo Coben, FOOL ME ONCE tem uma trama intrincada. Maya Stern (a bela inglesa Michelle Keegan) é uma ex-mariner, piloto de helicóptero que deixou o serviço depois de virar foco de um escândalo que divulgou vídeos de uma operação militar onde ela foi responsável pela morte de vários soldados e pessoas inocentes.
A vida de Maya já era complicada o suficiente. A irmã dela recém fora assassinada em um assalto não esclarecido a sua casa. Quando Maya retorna para casa, uma noite testemunha o marido Joe (Richard Armitage) ser morto por dois motoqueiros. Para complicar, semanas depois do fato, ainda traumatizada, Maya vê o marido morto aparecer em uma imagem da câmera que monitora as atividades da filha em casa.
Como as autoridades nada descobriram sobre a morte de Joe e sequer acreditam em Maya, ela se atira de cabeça na investigação do mistério.
Coben é mestre em écolocar suspeitos no caminho de maya. Há a sogra misteriosa (Joanna Lumley), o policial incompetente (Adeel Akthar), o cunhado viuvo e muitos outros. Todos têm seus segredos e mistérios.
Já vi três capítulos da série. A produção sempre esmerada da NETFLIX, mais um elenco interessante e a história intrigante de Coben, asseguram a atratividade grande da série.
Os temas de Coben são múltiplos e modernos: ganância, traição, armadilhas, escândalos das indústria farmacêutica, segredos militares, denúncias pela internet etc…
Uma boa atração deste início de 2024.

Years ago, when the book was released, I read somewhere that actress and producer Julia Roberts had acquired the rights and was going to make a film out of the story. I bought the book and read it in a day or two. The story is actually very good. I think Julia became uninterested, because I never heard about it again.
In true Coben style, FOOL ME ONCE has an intricate plot. Maya Stern (the beautiful Englishwoman Michelle Keegan) is a former marine, helicopter pilot who left the service after becoming the focus of a scandal that released videos of a military operation where she was responsible for the deaths of several soldiers and innocent people.
Maya’s life was already complicated enough. Her sister had recently been murdered in an unexplained robbery at her home. When Maya returns home, one night she witnesses her husband Joe (Richard Armitage) being killed by two bikers. To complicate matters, weeks after the fact, still traumatized, Maya sees her dead husband appear in an image from the camera that monitors her daughter’s activities at home.
As the authorities have discovered nothing about Joe’s death and don’t even believe Maya, she throws herself headlong into investigating the mystery.
Coben is a master at placing suspects in the path of Maya. There is the mysterious mother-in-law (Joanna Lumley), the incompetent police officer (Adeel Akthar), the widowed brother-in-law and many others. Everyone has their secrets and mysteries.
I’ve already seen three chapters of the series. NETFLIX’s always careful production, plus an interesting cast and Coben’s intriguing story, ensure the series’ great appeal.
Coben’s subjects are multiple: deciding, monetarism, fraude, deception, greed, pharmaceutical scandals, whistleblowers, military secrets, etc. All very attractive.
A good attraction for the beginning of 2024.
