Com muita tristeza li ontem que morreu o diretor canadense Norman Jewison, aos 97 anos.
No distante ano de 1975, um adolescente cinéfilo entrou no Cine Cacique para ver a estreia do filme ROLLERBALL, um fábula futurista sobre um esporte usado pelo governo autoritário para entreter multidões. Saí do cinema hipnotizado pelo filme de Norman Jewison. O herói Jonathan E (James Caan magnífico) estava eternizado em minha memória afetiva.
Jewison dirigiu 44 filmes e teve 7 indicações ao Oscar. Recebeu um prêmio honorário. Não ganhou o Oscar, o que se constitui em outro erro colossal do prêmio da Academia.
São dele JESUS CRISTO SUPERSTAR, NO CALOR DA NOITE, FEITIÇO DA LUA, UM VIOLINISTA NO TELHADO, CROWN O MAGNÍFICO e THE HURRICANE.
O cara sabia fazer filmes como poucos.
R.I.P. Norman Jewison. Vou rever ROLLERBALL pela centésima vez.
With great sadness I read yesterday that Canadian director Norman Jewison died, aged 97.
In the distant year of 1975, a teenage film buff entered Cine Cacique to see the premiere of the film ROLLERBALL, a futuristic fable about a sport used by the authoritarian government to entertain crowds. I left the cinema mesmerized by Norman Jewison’s film. The hero Jonathan E (the magnificent James Caan) was eternalized in my affectionate memory.
Jewison directed 44 films and had 7 Oscar nominations. He received an honorary award. He didn’t win the Oscar, which is another colossal Academy Awards mistake.
He directed JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT, MOONSTRUCK, FIEDLER ON THE ROOF, THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR and THE HURRICANE.
The guy knew how to make films like few others.
R.I.P. Norman Jewison. I’m going to rewatch ROLLERBALL for the hundredth time.
