Entrou em cartaz no Amazon Prime Video, o filme independente AMERICAN FICTION, dirigido por Cord Jefferson, título que apareceu em várias listas de melhores de 2023. Com absoluta justiça, devemos convir.
O excelente ator Jeffrey Whright vive o escritor Thelonious Ellson, um tímido e competente criador de histórias sobre o comportamento humano, em obras que tem uma circulacão restrita e um tratamento preconceituoso de parte das livrarias. Foi educado em Harvard e não se conforma com os rumos fáceis que a literatura escolhe para fazer sucesso.
Um dia, pressionado pela falta de dinheiro e furioso com o taratmento que seus livros recebem, resolve escrever um livro com elementos de superficialidade e facilidade de cair no gosto popular. Está criado o livro FUCK, do ficcional autor negro Stagg R. Lee, quase um guerrilheiro da escrita.
A galeria de personagens de AMERICAN FICTION é impressionante. Além do maravilhoso protagonista (a quem o roteiro dedica frases sensacionais a cada cena), há as duas mulheres pelas quais ele se interessa, a vizinha Corlaine (Erika alexander) e a escritora negra Sintara Golden (Issa Rae, magnífica), a irmã médica Tracee Ellis Ross, a mãe Agnes (Leslie Egan), um cineasta que se interessa por FUCK, ótimo trabalho de Adam Brody e talvez o melhor de todos, Clifford (Sterking K. Brown), o irmão gay de Thelonious.
São muitas as cenas sensacionais do filme. Acho mesmo que o roteiro do próprio diretor Jefferson e de Percival Everett está fácil entre os melhores do ano.
Há muitas discussões profundas sobre temas da realidade, todas abordadas sem que o filme perca seu humanismo e, principalmente o bom humor.
AMERICAN FICTION é ótimo como drama. E melhor ainda, como comédia dramática.
Uma pequena obra prima.
The independent film AMERICAN FICTION, directed by Cord Jefferson, was released on Amazon Prime Video, a title that appeared on several best of 2023 lists. In absolute fairness, we must agree.
The excellent actor Jeffrey Whright plays the writer Thelonious Ellson, a shy and competent creator of stories about human behavior, in works that have a restricted circulation and prejudiced treatment from bookstores. He was educated at Harvard and does not conform to the easy paths that literature chooses to be successful.
One day, pressured by a lack of money and furious with the treatment his books receive, he decides to write a book with elements of superficiality and easy appeal to popular taste. The book FUCK has been created, by the fictional black author Stagg R. Lee, almost a writing fighter.
The gallery of AMERICAN FICTION characters is impressive. In addition to the wonderful protagonist (to whom the script dedicates sensational phrases in each scene), there are the two women he is interested in, the neighbor Corlaine (Erika Alexander) and the black writer Sintara Golden (Issa Rae, magnificent), the doctor’s sister Tracee Ellis Ross, mother Agnes (Leslie Egan), a filmmaker who is interested in FUCK, Adam Brody‘s great work and perhaps best of all, Clifford (Sterking K. Brown), Thelonious’ gay brother.
There are many sensational scenes in the film. I really think that the script by director Jefferson and Percival Everett is easily among the best of the year.
There are many deep discussions about reality topics, all addressed without the film losing its humanism and, especially, its good humor.
AMERICAN FICTION is great as a drama. And even better, as a dramatic comedy.
A small masterpiece.
