A NETFLIX está exibindo FIGHTER, um longa metragem (2h45min) indiano dirigido por Siddharth Anand, um dos mais premiados e reconhecidos diretores daquele País hoje.
Trata-se de uma super produção Bollywoodiana. Para o melhor e para o pior.
Um grupo de terroristas da Cashemira planeja ataques contra a Força Aérea Indiana.
Os vilões são caricatos, especialmente o mais cruel deles, o temível Azhkar (Rishabh Sawhnet), um tipo fortão que tem um olho permanentemente injetado de sangue para lhe dar um ar vampiresco.
Os mocinhos não ficam para trás. O Maverick indiano é Patty (Hrithik Roshan), um piloto corajoso, destemperado, viciado em perigo. Ele vai se encantar pela piloto de helicóptero Minha Rathore (a atriz Depika Padukone, nascida na Dinamarca). Juntos – com a ajuda da equipe de pilotos da Força Aérea Indiana – eles vão enfrentar os sanguinários terroristas.
Tudo é feito ao estilo que faz sucesso em Bollywood. De quinze em quinze minutos, a ação pára para um número de canto e dança, em que todo elenco mostra seus dotes de dançarinos. Tem número musical até na pista de pouso dos jatos na base aérea.
O romance dos protagonistas é mostrado em clips musicais que mais parecem comerciais de shampoo (os cabelos dos nossos heróis sempre estão esvoaçantes) ou de perfumes internacionais de grife, com direito a modelitos de alta costura, barcos em paisagens belíssimas e, claro, passeios de moto ao melhor estilo Tom Cruise e Jennifer Connelly, de TOP GUN.
Aliás o roteiro de PILOTOS DE COMBATE não tem qualquer pudor de se inspirar no mega sucesso TOP GUN. São inúmeras as situações similares, como o melhor amigo casado que morre (ou não?), o comandante que tem uma querela passada com o herói, os dilemas existenciais do piloto e sua permanente disposição em arriscar a vida.
Há alguns diálogos terríveis, como quando o protagonista diz ao terrorista que não há caixão mais lindo do que um envolto na bandeira da Índia. Argh!
A produção segura a barra. A gente vê com atenção, desde que se esteja disposto a um mergulho em Bollywood. Sempre achei fascinante o incrível sucesso dos filmes que vem de lá.
FIGHTER se insere nesta linha.
Meu palpite é que tb vai ser um sucesso em um streaming mundial.

This is a super Bollywood production. For better and for worse.
A group of Kashmiri terrorists plans attacks on the Indian Air Force.
The villains are caricatured, especially the most cruel of them, the fearsome Azhkar (Rishabh Sawhnet), a strong guy who has one eye permanently injected with blood to give him a vampiric look.
The good guys don’t get left behind. The Indian Maverick is Patty (Hrithik Roshan), a courageous, intemperate pilot, addicted to danger. He will fall in love with helicopter pilot Minha Rathore (actress Depika Padukone, born in Denmark). Together – with the help of the Indian Air Force pilot team – they will face the bloodthirsty terrorists.
Everything is done in the style that is successful in Bollywood. Every fifteen minutes, the action stops for a song and dance number, in which the entire cast shows off their dancing skills. There’s even a musical number on the jet landing strip at the air base.
The protagonists’ romance is shown in music videos that look more like shampoo commercials (our heroes’ hair is always flying) or international designer perfumes, complete with haute couture outfits, boats in beautiful landscapes and, of course, boat trips. motorcycle in the best Tom Cruise and Jennifer Connelly style, from TOP GUN.
In fact, the script for FIGHTER has no shame in being inspired by the mega-success TOP GUN. There are countless similar situations, such as the married best friend who dies (or not?), the commander who has a past quarrel with the hero, the pilot’s existential dilemmas and his permanent willingness to risk his life.
There are some terrible dialogues, like when the protagonist tells the terrorist that there is no coffin more beautiful than one draped in the Indian flag. Argh!
Production holds the bar. We watch it carefully, as long as you are willing to dive into Bollywood. I’ve always found the incredible success of the films that come from there fascinating.
FIGHTER is part of this line.
My guess is that it will also be a worldwide streaming success.
