Patricia Highsmith foi uma escritora americana (faleceu em 1995, aos 74 anos) que deixou histórias que o cinema adora. A partir dos livros dela, por exemplo, Alfred Hitchcock fez o extraordinário PACTO SINISTRO (STRANGERS ON A TRAIN). Em 1999, o italiano Anthony Minghella filmou O TALENTOSO MR. RIPLEY, com Matt Damon, Jude Law, Cate Blanchett e Gwyneth Paltrow. Foi um grande sucesso.
A NETFLIX colocou no ar agora uma série de oito episódios, intitulada RIPLEY, refilmando a história de Highsmith. Tom Ripley um fracassado vigarista que vive de pequenos golpes, recebe a oportunidade da vida, quando do um milionário americano lhe contrata para tentar trazer de volta à América, o filho que vive na Europa com a namorada.
A série é extremamente bem produzida, com destaque para uma fotografia em preto e branco, daquelas de tirar o fôlego em inúmeras cenas. Robert Elswit fez um trabalho incrível.
O elenco traz Andrew Scott, Johnny Flynn, Dakota Fanning, Elliot Summer e Margherita Buy. Um ótimo elenco, embora sem as estrelas do filme de Minghella.
Uma curiosidade. Scott é o sexto ator a viver Tom Ripley. antes dele tivemos Alain Delon (PURPLE NOON, 1960), Dennis Hooper (AN AMERICAN FRIEND, 1977), Matt Damon (THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY, 1999), John Malkovich (RIPLEY’S GAME, 2002) e Barry Pepper (RIPLEY UNDER GROUND, 2005).
O círculo de golpes de Tom Ripley, principalmente depois que assume a identidade de Greenleaf é narrado em ótimo ritmo, fazendo crescer o suspense pela iminência da descoberta do estelionatário.
Ainda não vi todos os episódios de RIPLEY, mas já é possível afirmar que se trata de mais uma produção original repleta de mérito indiscutíveis.

NETFLIX has now aired an eight-episode series, titled RIPLEY, remaking Highsmith’s story. Tom Ripley, a failed con man who lives off small scams, receives the opportunity of a lifetime when an American millionaire hires him to try to bring back to America his son who lives in Europe with his girlfriend.
The series is extremely well produced, with emphasis on breathtaking black and white photography in countless scenes. Robert Elswit did an incredible job.
The cast features Andrew Scott, Johnny Flynn, Dakota Fanning, Elliot Summer and Margherita Buy. A great cast, although without the stars of Minghella’s film.

Tom Ripley’s circle of scams, especially after he assumes the identity of Greenleaf, is narrated at a great pace, increasing the suspense due to the imminence of the embezzler’s discovery.
I haven’t seen all the episodes of RIPLEY yet, but it’s already possible to say that it’s another original production full of undeniable merit.

Também achei muito bem produzida, confesso que no ínicio, ver o Andrew Scott no papel central, me incomodou um pouquinho, até porque não vejo nele aquela imagem de nerd despretencioso e misterioso que tinha o Matt Damon no filme, mas no desenrolar da série, ele me surpreendeu bastante, cenas muito detalhadas e minuciosas, e também merece destaque a Dakota Fanning no papel de Marge e o competente Johnny Flynn no papel de Dickie, não tem o tom galanteador que tinha Jude Law, mas convence bastante também. ótima produção 9/10
