Está em cartaz na Apple TV+, o thriller A TEIA, dirigido pelo cineasta Adam Cooper.
O excelente ator neozelandês Russell Crowe vive o policial aposentado Roy Freeman. A doença de Alzheimer – em estágio avançado – fez ele se aposentar relativamente cedo. Um tratamento experimental para a doença faz com que ele volte a ter lembranças de um caso sem solução que investigara anos atrás, com seu parceiro Jimmy (Tony Flannagan).
Foi o assassinato brutal de um professor universitário conquistador (Marton Csokas, também da Nova Zelândia). Entre os suspeitos, estavam o jovem bibliotecário Richard Finn (Harry Greenwood) e a pesquisadora Laura Baines (Karen Gillian).
Laura era assistente do professor morto e foi embora da cidade reclamando que seu mentor havia se apropriado de seu trabalho científico sobre a memória.
Cada lembrança que volta à mente de Freeman mais o faz sair da inatividade e ir atrás do verdadeiro culpado.
O filme é baseado no livro O LIVRO DOS ESPELHOS, de E.O. Chirovici.
Não por acaso, Crowe é um dos atores mais reconhecidos e premiados de sua geração. Ele consegue dar uma rara autenticidade ao seu personagem, dividido entre a vitória de voltar a ter memória (pelo sucesso do tratamento) e o desespero de perceber que o caso tinha sido negligenciado por ele e o parceiro. É tão interessante de se ver, quando angustiante de dividir as emoções com o protagonista.
Sem jamais ultrapassar a pretensão de ser um entretenimento de bom nível, o filme conduz muito bem o espectador pelas memórias do policial protagonista.
SLEEPING DOGS – titulo original – é um thriller bem bom de se ver e curtir.

Excellent New Zealand actor Russell Crowe plays retired police officer Roy Freeman. Alzheimer’s disease – at an advanced stage – made him retire relatively early. An experimental treatment for the disease causes him to have memories of an unsolved case he investigated years ago with his partner Jimmy (Tony Flannagan).
It was the brutal murder of a womaniser university professor (Marton Csokas, also from New Zealand). Among the suspects were young librarian Richard Finn (Harry Greenwood) and researcher Laura Baines (Karen Gillian).
Laura was the dead professor’s assistant and left town complaining that her mentor had appropriated her scientific work on memory.
Each memory that comes back to Freeman’s mind makes him leave his inactivity and go after the real culprit.
The film is based on the book THE BOOK OF MIRRORS, by E.O. Chirovici.
It is no coincidence that Crowe is one of the most recognized and awarded actors of his generation. He manages to give a rare authenticity to his character, divided between the victory of regaining his memory (due to the success of the treatment) and the despair of realizing that the case had been neglected by him and his partner. It’s so interesting to watch, while it’s harrowing to share emotions with the protagonist.
Without ever going beyond the pretension of being a good level of entertainment, the film takes the viewer very well through the memories of the protagonist police officer.
SLEEPING DOGS – original title – is a really good thriller to watch and enjoy.
