Há, claro, os Pais. Um desajustado e viciado criador de bonecos de um programa de televisão que segue traumatizado pela infância e pelo tratamento frio que recebia de sues pais. A esposa sexualmente insatisfeita que vê o marido se afundar. O Policial gay, cujo parceiro está morrendo de AIDS, e que busca afirmação no ambiente de trabalho. O zelador do prédio, ex- condenado, que é olhado por todos com desconfiança.
Onde está Edgar? Há esperança de encontrá-lo vivo?
A série ERIC não hesita em cortar fundo as feridas. O tema dos sem casa, por exemplo, é tratado sem meias palavras. A corrupção política, a pedofilia, o uso abusivo de álcool e drogas, a frieza dos pais do personagem Vincent.
Vincent merece uma nota a parte. Benedict Cumberbatch é um ator excepcional. Desde seu SHERLOCK, da BBC, isso estava claro. Mas vieram O JOGO DA IMITAÇÃO, O MAURITÂNIO, 1917 e um extraordinário FRANKENSTEIN no teatro inglês (disponível no app do National Theatre). Ele ainda se deu ao luxo de frequentar o Universo Marvel, como o DOUTOR ESTRANHO.
Seu Vincent é de uma riqueza interpretativa impressionante. É um vilão, porque negligenciou seu filho e a esposa pelo vício por seus próprios tramas. Mas tem uma sensibilidade que lhe permite ver a relação de Edgar com o monstrengo ERIC.
Trata-se de um momento sublime da série. Conseguir olhar (e ouvir) os anseios do outro.
Gostei muito de ERIC. Acho que muita gente vai torcer o nariz para uma trama que tem um monstro imaginário. É um dos diferenciais da série. Lúdico, criativo e lindo.
Nos dias atuais o espaço para o lúdico está muito difícil.

The disappearance of a boy in New York begins a one-way search that will completely change the lives of everyone involved.
There are, of course, the Parents. A misfit and addicted puppet creator for a television show who remains traumatized by his childhood and the cold treatment he received from his parents. The sexually dissatisfied wife who watches her husband sink. The gay police officer, whose partner is dying of AIDS, and who seeks affirmation in the workplace. The building’s caretaker, an ex-convict, who is looked at with suspicion by everyone.
Where is Edgar? Is there hope of finding him alive?
The ERIC series does not hesitate to cut deep into wounds. The theme of the homeless, for example, is addressed without mincing words. Political corruption, pedophilia, abusive use of alcohol and drugs, the coldness of Vincent’s parents.
Vincent deserves a separate note. Benedict Cumberbatch is an exceptional actor. Since his BBC SHERLOCK, this was clear. But then came THE IMITATION GAME, THE MAURITANIAN, 1917 and an extraordinary FRANKENSTEIN in English theater (available on the National Theater app). He even had the luxury of visiting the Marvel Universe, like DOCTOR STRANGE.
Your Vincent has an impressive interpretative richness. He is a villain because he neglected his son and wife to addiction by his own schemes. But he has a sensitivity that allows him to see Edgar’s relationship with the monster ERIC.
This is a sublime moment in the series. Being able to look at (and listen to) the other person’s desires.
I really liked ERIC. I think a lot of people will turn up their noses at a plot that has an imaginary monster. It’s one of the series’ differentiators. Playful, creative and beautiful.
Nowadays the space for poetry is very difficult.
