Um professor de literatura e uma aluna muito jovem tem um envolvimento platônico perigosamente inadequado quando um trabalho dela aborda os escritos de Henry Miller, conhecido autor de livros proibidos.
Martin Freeman é o Professor Jonathan Miller, veterano mestre da Universidade da Georgia que fica encantado pela inteligente aluna Cairo Sweet (Jena Ortega com muitos trejeitos de seu personagem anterior, a Vandinha Addams).
Boa parte do filme se passa nos diálogos (reais ou fictícios) entre professor e aluna, todos de voltagem alta e cheios de palavras de duplo sentido.
Há três outros personagens importantes na trama: Beatrice, a esposa de Miller (um mulher inteligente mas alcoólatra feita de forma excelente pela atriz Dagmara Dominczyk (a Ann do filme PRISCILLA, de Sofia Coppola), Boris Fillmore (um professor da escola mais lúdico que Miller) e Winnie Back (a melhor amiga de Cairo, feita pela atriz Gideon Adlon).
Li críticas muito ácidas sobre o filme, seu roteiro e, inclusive seu elenco.
Achei as críticas pesadas demais.
Vi o filme com interesse até o fim. Nada me afastou da narrativa na medida que os críticos disseram.
Certamente não é um grande filme, mas um título que ao menos para mim, consegue atingir seus objetivos.

Martin Freeman is Professor Jonathan Miller, a veteran master at the University of Georgia who is enchanted by the intelligent student Cairo Sweet (Jena Ortega with many mannerisms from her previous character, Vandinha Addams).
Much of the film takes place in dialogues (real or fictional) between teacher and student, all high voltage and full of words with double meanings.
There are three other important characters in the plot: Beatrice, Miller’s wife (an intelligent but alcoholic woman played excellently by actress Dagmara Dominczyk (Ann from Sofia Coppola’s film PRISCILLA), Boris Fillmore (a more playful school teacher who Miller) and Winnie Back (Cairo’s best friend, played by actress Gideon Adlon).
I read very harsh reviews about the film, its script and even its cast.
I found the criticism too harsh.
I watched the film with interest until the end.
Nothing took me away from the narrative as much as the critics said.
It’s certainly not a great film, but a title that, at least for me, manages to achieve its goals.
