O filme que Billy Wilder rodou em 1957, a partir do texto escrito por Agatha Christie é simplesmente perfeito. Vale lembrar que Mestre Wilder fez outras obras primas como QUANTO MAIS QUENTE MELHOR, INFERNO 17 e CREPÚSCULO DOS DEUSES, só para citar outros três.
Aqui um trio soberbo de atores, Charles Laughton, Marlene Dietrich e Tyrone Power estão no máximo de seus talentos vivendo o advogado Sir Wilfred Roberts, a misteriosa Christine Vole e o vilão Leonard Vole. Não dá para deixar de mencionar a extraordinária Elsa Lanchester como a enfermeira encarregada da saúde do melhor advogado.
A história de Agatha Christie é primorosa: um pobre rapaz é acusado da morte de uma velha senhora rica, a quem ele prestava favores sexuais. A única testemunha que suporta o álibi dele é a esposa vinda de uma Alemanha destruída pela Segunda Guerra.

Como adoro o gênero filme de tribunal, fica difícil dizer qual o meu título favorito entre advogados, cortes e magistrados.
TESTEMUNHA DE ACUSAÇÃO certamente figura entre os melhores.

The film that Billy Wilder shot in 1957, based on the text written by Agatha Christie, is simply perfect. It is worth remembering that Master Wilder made other masterpieces such as SOME LIKE IT HOT, SATALAG 17 and SUNSET BOULEVARD, just to name three others.
Here a superb trio of actors, Charles Laughton, Marlene Dietrich and Tyrone Power are at the peak of their talents playing the lawyer Sir Wilfred Roberts, the mysterious Christine Vole and the villain Leonard Vole. We cannot fail to mention the extraordinary Elsa Lanchester as the nurse in charge of the veteran lawyer’s health.
Agatha Christie‘s story is exquisite: a poor boy is accused of the death of a rich old lady, to whom he provided sexual favors. The only witness who supports his alibi is his wife from a Germany destroyed by World War II.
The film is from 1957, in exquisite black and white.
As I love the courtroom film genre, it’s difficult to say which title is my favorite among lawyers, courts and magistrates.
WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION certainly ranks among the best.
Watching for the no matter time a perfect film is always a pleasure.
