Marlena Burow (jovem atriz alemã de sucesso) vive Maria, a filha de um casal desfeito que vai morar com o namorado na fazenda da família dele no campo. Estamos em 1990 e as duas Alemanha (e seu povo) ainda estão experimentando voltar a ser apenas um país.
O fim da divisão tem consequências em todos.
Maria tem o hábito de ler compulsivamente, o que não é bem visto pela família dos sogros, que preferiam tê-la trabalhando nas tarefas braçais da fazenda.
Apesar de apaixonada pelo namorado, ele inicia um affair com o tosco vizinho da fazenda ao lado. Ele é Henner (Feliz Kramer), um criador de cavalos solitário e embrutecido.
Mas o romance dos dois vai prosperar de forma tórrida e atrativa para os apaixonados amantes.
Há muita coisa interessante no filme.
Por exemplo, a visita ao local do filho exilado gera tensões focadas de modo brilhante pelo roteiro.

Marlena Burow (a successful young German actress) plays Maria, the daughter of a broken couple who goes to live with her boyfriend on his family’s farm in the countryside. It’s 1990 and both Germany (and its people) are still experimenting with becoming just one country again.

Maria has a habit of reading compulsively, which is not well regarded by her in-laws, who preferred to have her working on hard tasks on the farm.
Despite being in love with her boyfriend, he starts an affair with the rude neighbor on the farm next door. He is Henner (Feliz Kramer), a lonely and brutalized horse breeder.
But their romance will prosper in a torrid and attractive way for the passionate lovers.
There are a lot of interesting things in the film.
For example, the visit to the exiled son’s place generates tensions that are brilliantly focused on by the script.

It’s a very good film. It was fairly nominated for the Golden Bear at the Berlin festival.
