A queixa original é feita pela solteirona Edith Swan (a maravilhosa Olivia Colman) um dos principais alvos do missivista pronográfico. Edith vive com o Pai, Edward (Timothy Spall, ótimo) e a mãe Victoria (Gemma Jones). Cada nova carta gera uma crise de indignação familiar justificada.
A principal suspeita é a jovem Rose Gooding (Jesse Buckley), uma viúva que tem uma filha e mora próximo dos Swan com o novo companheiro.
Entre os policiais investigadores do caso o destaque é Gladys Moss (Anjana Vassan), uma descendente de indianos, filha de um famoso policial local. Como uma das primeiras oficiais mulheres da Polícia local, ela nunca é levada muito a sério. Vai buscar a verdade custe o que custar.

The crude language, full of offensive sexual innuendo, undermines the population’s peace of mind, forcing the local police to investigate the episode.
The original complaint is made by spinster Edith Swan (the wonderful Olivia Colman), one of the writer’s main targets. Edith lives with her father, Edward (Timothy Spall, great) and mother Victoria (Gemma Jones). Each new letter generates a crisis of righteous family outrage.
The main suspect is young Rose Gooding (Jesse Buckley), a widow who has a daughter and lives close to the Swans with her new partner.
Among the police officers investigating the case, the more active is Gladys Moss (Anjana Vassan), an Indian descendant, daughter of a famous local police officer. As one of the first female officers in the local police force, she is never taken too seriously. She will seek the truth no matter what the cost.
The arrest of young Rose generates commotion in the media and the community.
Director Thea’s film is very well structured. It invests heavily against all forms of moralism and prejudice, including racial prejudice.
The film is as hard-hitting as it is funny.
As someone once said, “there are no moralists, only false moralists.”
WICKED LITTLE LETTERS denounces precisely this.
