THOSE ABOUT TO DIE: Série da Peacock Sobre Roma Antiga Explora Pão e Circo

A quantidade de filmes e séries focando a Roma antiga é imensurável. Há grande clássicos do cinema sobre Roma, como SPARTACUS, de Stanley Kubrick, BEN-HUR, de William Wyler e GLADIADOR, de Ridley Scott. No campo das séries, há ROMA, da HBO e SPARTACUS a série da STARZ que é centrada em sexo e violência.

Agora surge THOSE ABOUT TO DIE, produção da Peacock cujo responsável é Roland Emmerich, o diretor de INDEPENDENCE DAY.

Vi os dois primeiros dos dez capítulos desta temporada.

O elenco é notável: Anthony Hopkins, Gabriela Pession (a linda atriz americana de CROSSING LINES), Tom Hughes, Dimitri Leonidas e Iwan Leon. Mas minha visão foi de trabalhos bem burocráticos e sem brilho.

O início da série não me impressionou.

Achei os efeitos especiais artificiais e a dramaticidade superficial.

O melhor da série foi a corrida de bigas, realmente bem encenada. Nada do nível do BEN-HUR, mas interessante de se ver.

Para poder constar em alguma lista de filmes sobre ROMA, terá que melhorar muito.

Now comes THOSE ABOUT TO DIE, a Peacock production headed by Roland Emmerich, the director of INDEPENDENCE DAY.

I saw the first two of this season’s ten chapters.

The cast is remarkable: Anthony Hopkins, Gabriela Pession (the beautiful American actress from CROSSING LINES), Tom Hughes, Dimitri Leonidas and Iwan Leon. But my vision was of very bureaucratic and lackluster work.

The beginning of the series didn’t impress me.

I found the special effects artificial and the drama superficial.

The best part of the series was the chariot race, which was really well staged. Nothing on the level of the classic BEN-HUR, but interesting to see.

To be included on any list of films about ROME, it will have to improve a lot.
