A trama se baseia em um fato real, ocorrido em 2009, quando foram encontrados restos de 19 mulheres em um deserto no Novo México. A Polícia local convocou um profiler do FBI para ajudar nas investigações. Muitos suspeitos foram investigados, mas como dia o slogan do filme, o Serial Killer ainda pode estar por aí.
Mel Gibson é o nome mais famoso do elenco. Aos 68 anos, o oscarizado ator e diretor de CORAÇÃO SELVAGEM e MÁQUINA MORTÍFERA, anda longe de seus dias de glória, mas aqui reaparece em um papel interessante. O agente Petrovick do FBI chega à Albuquerque cheio de traumas e problemas do passado. É um bom trabalho de Gibson depois de vários filmes de gosto muito duvidoso.
A jovem atriz texana Nora Zehetner, vista em AGENTS OF SHIELD e na série THE RIGHT STUFF encarna a Detetive Young e Brian van Holt (BLACK HAWK DOWN) vive o Detetive Ortega.
O filme é bem lento. Propositadamente, o diretor preferiu centrar sua narrativa no drama que no thriller. O tema é escabroso o suficiente para propiciar temas dark quase deprimentes.
Na minha opinião, faltou uma centelha de paixão à narrativa.
A gente vê o filme com interesse até o final, mas em momento algum há uma cena apaixonante como os duelos de Jodie Foster e Anthony Hopkins na obra prima O SILÊNCIO DOS INOCENTES, de Jonathan Demme.
É a diferença entre os bons filmes e as obras primas.

Mel Gibson is the most famous name in the cast. At 68 years old, the Oscar-winning actor and director of BRAVEHEART and LETHAL WEAPON is far from his glory days, but here he reappears in an interesting role. FBI agent Petrovick arrives in Albuquerque full of traumas and problems from his past. It’s a good job by Gibson after several films of very questionable taste.

The film is very slow. The director deliberately chose to focus his narrative on drama rather than thriller. The subject is gruesome enough to provide dark, almost depressing themes.
In my opinion, the narrative lacked a spark of passion.
We watch the film with interest until the end, but at no point is there a passionate scene like the duels between Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins in Jonathan Demme‘s masterpiece SILENCE OF THE LAMBS.
That’s the difference between good films and masterpieces.
