Nas décadas de 80 e 90, fez enorme sucesso o cinema de um diretor canadense chamado Denys Arcand. JESUS DE MONTREAL, INVASÕES BÁRBARAS e O DECLÍNIO DO IMPÉRIO AMERICANO certamente estão entre os filmes mais brilhantes daquele período.
Arcand tem hoje 83 anos.

Trata-se de um filme excepcional, daqueles que a gente não somente deve ver, como deve recomendar aos amigos. É uma lição de lucidez, bom humor e humanidade sobre os tempos que vivemos.
O personagem central é Jean-Michel Bouchard (excelente trabalho do ator Remy Girard, um dos habitués de Arcand) um idoso que tem muito pouca motivação para seguir vivendo uma vida monótona em uma instituição para velhos em Quebec.
O roteiro – inteligentíssimo e afiado como sempre – de Arcand vai colocar Bouchard em meio a uma série de acontecimentos que despertam sua atenção, ameaçando reacender uma centelha de interesse pela vida.
Tudo dentro de um contexto no qual predomina o humor ácido e cortantes de Arcand, uma característica (quase uma assinatura) de seu cinema.
Claro que nesse ponto há os políticos canadenses, um dos pratos prediletos das ironias de Arcand, nos mostrando que os políticos são universais em colocar seus assuntos muito à frente do bem comum dos cidadãos.
Vendo TESTAMENTO, de certa forma voltei às década de 80 e 90, onde no Bristol e Cinema Um, o cinema de Denys Arcand muitas vezes me fez refletir sobre a vida.
Saí de mais esses filme do canadense brilhante, com mais motivos para ter senso crítico e desejar viver mais.

In the 80s and 90s, the films of a Canadian director named Denys Arcand were hugely successful. JESUS OF MONTREAL, THE BARBARIAN INVASIONS and THE DECLINE OF THE AMERICAN EMPIRE are certainly among the most brilliant films of that period.
Arcand is now 83 years old.

This is another exceptional film, one of those that we should not only watch, but also recommend to our friends. It is a lesson in lucidity, good humor and humanity about the times we live in.
The central character is Jean-Michel Bouchard (an excellent performance by actor Remy Girard, one of Arcand’s regulars), an elderly man who has very little motivation to continue living a monotonous life in a Quebec institution for old people.
Arcand’s script – as intelligent and sharp as ever – will place Bouchard in the middle of a series of events that catch his attention, threatening to rekindle a spark of interest in life.
All within a context in which Arcand’s acid and cutting humor predominates, a characteristic (almost a signature) of his cinema.
Of course, at this point there are Canadian politicians, one of Arcand’s favorite dishes of irony, showing us that politicians are universal in putting their own affairs ahead of the common good of citizens.
Watching TESTAMENT, in a way I went back to the 80s and 90s, where at Bristol and Cinema Um, Denys Arcand’s films often made me reflect on life.
I left this film by the brilliant Canadian with more reasons to be critical and to want to live longer.
