O BRITBOX está exibindo THE LONG CALL, uma série inglesa de 4 capítulos que aposta em inovar a batida trama do policial que volta a sua cidade natal para investigar um crime.
A pequena cidade de North Devon, na costa da Inglaterra tem forte influência evangélica. O DI Matthew Venn (Ben Aldrige) saiu de lá, deixando para trás pai e mãe quando escolheu viver de acordo com suas preferências homossexuais.
Anos depois, ele volta à cidade, junto com seu companheiro quando dois fatos abalam a comunidade: a morte do pai de Matthew e o assassinato de um homem que pode estar ligado ao sumiço de uma jovem.
O conflito entre os religiosos e o modo de vida do detetive proporciona cenas muito boas, como aquela em que ele leva a mãe para jantar com o casal e conhecer a casa que constroem próximo da praia.
A trama policial também inova, ao colocar como uma das possíveis suspeitas uma jovem com síndrome de Down.
A produção é muito boa e, como toda série inglesa tem um elenco bem acima da média: Martin Shaw, Juliet Stevenson e Siobahn Cullen estão entre os destaques do cast.

BRITBOX is showing THE LONG CALL, a 4-part English series that aims to innovate the well-worn plot of a police officer who returns to his hometown to investigate a crime.
The small town of North Devon, on the coast of England, has a strong evangelical influence. DI Matthew Venn (Ben Aldridge) left there, leaving behind his father and mother when he chose to live according to his homosexual preferences.
Years later, he returns to the town, along with his partner, when two events shake the community: the death of Matthew’s father and the murder of a man who may be linked to the disappearance of a young woman.
The conflict between the religious and the detective’s way of life provides some very good scenes, such as the one in which he takes his mother to dinner with the couple and to see the house they are building near the beach.
The police plot also innovates by placing a young woman with Down syndrome as one of the possible suspects.
The production is very good and, like all English series, it has a cast that is well above average: Martin Shaw, Juliet Stevenson and Siobahn Cullen are among the highlights of the cast.
THE LONG CALL is a police series that is a pleasure to watch.
