Estreou neste último domingo na CBS americana, a série MATLOCK, estrelada por Kathy Bates. Aparentemente, seria uma homenagem à antiga MATLOCK, em que Andy Griffith vivia um advogado diferenciado.
No programa atual, uma septuagenária entra em uma firma de advocacia gigante de Nova Iorque, postulando um emprego e alegando que a “invisibilidade” com que a sociedade atual trata os idosos dá a ela uma condi’;cão especial de ajudar.
Ali, ela vai se deparar com o fundador do escritório, interpretado por Beau Bridges e com os jovens advogados Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) e Julian (Jason Ritter).
De forma pouco crível, a recém chegada é integrada na equipe que está às vésperas de um julgamento no qual o cliente – um homem que ficou injustamente preso por mais de 25 anos – pede uma indenização contra o estado de Nova Iorque.
O final do episódio de estréia reserva um “twist” daqueles de derrubar o espectador da cadeira. Deixa um gostinho de “quero mais” para os próximos capítulos.
Kathy Bates nunca foi valorizada à altura de seu talento. Fez mais de 100 filmes e um dos únicos trabalhos lembrados sempre é o da maluquete de MISERY, baseado em Stephen King. Ali, merecidamente ganhou um Oscar de Melhor Atriz do Ano.
Tendo anunciado que MATLOCK será seu último trabalho, ela desfila charme e categoria pela tela, magnetizando os olhares em cada cena.
Não dá ainda para saber se MATLOCK será sucesso ou não.
Mas que o inicio ficou instigante graças ao twist, isso ficou.

In the current program, a female septuagenarian lawyer enters a giant law firm in New York, applying for a job and claiming that the “invisibility” with which today’s society treats the elderly gives her a special position to help.
There, she will meet the founder of the firm, played by Beau Bridges, and the young lawyers Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) and Julian (Jason Ritter).
In a somewhat unbelievable way, the newcomer is integrated into the team that is on the eve of a trial in which the client – a man who was unjustly imprisoned for more than 25 years – is seeking compensation against the state of New York.
The end of the premiere episode has a “twist” that will knock the viewer off their chair. It leaves you wanting more for the next chapters.
Kathy Bates has never been valued for her talent. She made more than 100 films and one of the only works that is always remembered is that of the crazy girl in MISERY, based on Stephen King. There, she deservedly won an Oscar for Best Actress of the Year.
Having announced that MATLOCK will be her last work, she parades charm and class on the screen, mesmerizing everyone in each scene.
It is not yet known whether MATLOCK will be a success or not.
But the beginning was intriguing thanks to the twist, that is for sure.
