ROCKY, UM LUTADOR: 40 ANOS DEPOIS, A ZEBRA AINDA EMOCIONA A TODOS

Há 40 anos atrás, eu entrei no Cinema Cacique, em Porto alegre, para ver o filme ROCKY, UM LUTADOR, de John G. Avildsen, estrelado por um ator totalmente desconhecido de nome Sylvester Stallone.

“Filme de box” já tinham gerado clássicos inesquecíveis, como PUNHOS DE CAMPEÃO(1949), de Robert Wise, mas nada indicava que aquele filme novo iria revolucionar o gênero.

No final do filme, não apenas eu, mas toda a plateia estava de pé, enlouquecida, como em uma luta ao vivo, ao som da magnífica trilha sonora de Bill Conti, dando socos no ar e torcendo furiosamente para Rocky Balboa, a zebra, resistir aos socos poderosos de Apollo Creed, o clone de Cassius Clay.

Stallone e Avildsen haviam conseguido um feito memorável que lhes rendeu os Oscars de Melhor Filme, Melhor Diretor e Melhor Montagem e outras sete indicações. Um filme com orçamento inferior a um milhão de dólares que rendeu, na época, somente no mercado doméstico, mais de 117 milhões.

ROCKY, UM LUTADOR lançou a carreira de Stallone, uma franquia de sucesso e trouxe de volta os filmes de boxe.

Quarenta anos depois, segue um marco do cinema.

40 years ago, I went to the Cinema Cacique in Porto Alegre to see John G. Avildsen’s ROCKY, starring a totally unknown actor named Sylvester Stallone.

Boxing films had already spawned unforgettable classics, such as Robert Wise’s 1949 THE SET-UP, but nothing indicated that that new movie would revolutionize the genre.

At the end of the movie, not just me, but the whole audience was standing, crazed, like in a live fight, to the sound of Bill Conti’s magnificent soundtrack, punching the air and wailing furiously at Rocky, resisting to the powerful punches of Apollo Creed, the clone of Cassius Clay.

Stallone and Avildsen had achieved a memorable feat that earned them three Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Editing and seven other nominations. A movie with a budget of less than one million dollars, which at the time made more than 117 million dollars only in the domestic market.

ROCKY launched Stallone’s career, a successful franchise and brought back the boxing movies.

Forty years later, it follows a monument in movies.
