MORTE NO NILO (1978): Ustinov como Poirot Caça os Assassinos a Bordo

MORTE NO NILO foi o primeiro livro da escritora inglesa Agatha Christie que eu li. Lembro que fiquei muito impressionado com Hercule Poirot, o imortal detetive belga criado para perseguir criminosos na histórias policiais da Velha Dama.

Li todos os livros de Agatha Christie. Portanto, me considero um grande fã dela.

Em 1978, Peter Ustinov, um excelente ator inglês se vestiu de Poirto para descobrir os assassinos na adaptação cinematográfico de MORTE NO NILO, feita pelo diretor John Guillermin. A fórmula era tiro certo: uma bela história, paisagens deslumbrantes do Egito e um elenco de astros e estrelas.

Além de Ustinov, tínhamos David Niven, Bette Davis, Mia Farrow, Olivia Hussey, John Finch, George Kennedy, Angela Lansbury, Maggie Smith, Jack Warden, Sam WannamakerLois Chiles, Jane Birkin e Simon McCorkindale.

O filme era bem feito e divertido. Lembro de ter achado as cenas dos assassinatos violentas demais. Muito sangue. O estilo da Velha Dama era mais sutil.

Mas ver Ustinov como Poirot era uma delícia.

Estou louco para ver esta nova versão de Kenneth Branagh para MORTE NO NILO.

É uma história eterna sobre ganância, egoísmo e ambição. Agatha Christie sabia o que escrevia.

DEATH ON THE NILE was the first book by the English writer Agatha Christie that I read. I remember being very impressed with Hercule Poirot, the immortal Belgian detective created to chase criminals in the detective stories of the Old Lady.

I’ve read all of Agatha Christie’s books. So I consider myself a big fan of hers.

In 1978, Peter Ustinov, an excellent English actor, dressed up as Poirot to discover the murderers in the film adaptation of DEATH ON THE NILE, made by director John Guillermin. The formula was a straight shot: a beautiful story, breathtaking landscapes of Egypt and an all-star cast.

In addition to Ustinov, we had David Niven, Bette Davis, Mia Farrow, Olivia Hussey, John Finch, George Kennedy, Angela Lansbury, Maggie Smith, Jack Warden, Sam Wannamaker, Lois Chiles, Jane Birkin and Simon McCorkindale.

The movie was well made and fun. I remember finding the murder scenes too violent. A lot of blood. The Old Lady’s style was more subtle.

But seeing Ustinov as Poirot was a delight.

I’m excited to see this new version of Kenneth Branagh‘s DEATH ON THE NILE.

It’s a timeless story about greed, selfishness and ambition. Agatha Christie knew what she wrote.
