Conheci a arte do cineasta Wolfgang Petersen em um filme de alta qualidade e duro de ser ver: O BARCO (DAS BOOT), de 1981 é um dos melhores filmes de guerra de todos os tempos, enfocando o drama dos tripulantes de um submarino alemão durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial.
Para minha surpresa, três anos depois aquele duro cineasta germânico apresentava o lírico e lúdico HISTÓRIA SEM FIM, um excelente filme infantil sobre um livro mágico e a magia da leitura. Sensibilidade pura.
Petersen morreu nessa semana, aos 81 anos.

O que gosto mais é NA LINHA DE FOGO, um imaginativo thriller em que o agente do serviço secreto americano vivido por Clint Eastwood duela com um maléfico John Malkovich. Os seguidos encontros entre os dois são nada menos que hipnóticos.
Mas Petersen fez EPIDEMIA, AIR FORCE ONE, PERFECT STORM e TRÓIA. Este último ;e um filme histórico sobre a queda de Tróia, com direito a cavalo de madeira, Brad Pitt e uma belíssima Helena (Diane Kruger).
Wolfgang Petersen conhecia muito o seu ofício. Era um contador de histórias de grande talento.

To my surprise, three years later that tough German filmmaker presented the lyrical and playful THE NEVER ENDING HISTORY, an excellent children’s film about a magical book and the magic of reading. Pure sensitivity.

What I like best is IN THE LINE OF FIRE, an imaginative thriller in which the American secret service agent played by Clint Eastwood duels with an evil John Malkovich. The ensuing encounters between the two are nothing short of hypnotic.
But Petersen did OUTBREAK, AIR FORCE ONE, PERFECT STORM and TROY. The latter is a historical film about the fall of Troy, with a wooden horse, Brad Pitt and a beautiful Helena (Diane Kruger).
Wolfgang Petersen was very familiar with his craft. He was a very talented storyteller.
