Tenho gostado bastante de volta e meia rever filmes bem antigos, que vi muitos anos atrás e até alguns que não tenho certeza se já tinha visto ou não.
É o caso de ALVAREZ KELLY, western dirigido por Edward Dmytryk, em 1966.
Alvarez Kelly é um mexicano que se especializa em transportar gado durante a Guerra Civil Americana. Uma espécie de mercenário a serviço de quem lhe paga mais, sem convicções políticas.
Depois de fazer um grande negócio entregando centenas de cabeças de gado para o exército da União, ele é sequestrado pelo exército confederado que lhe pressiona para “roubar” o gado como forma de alimentar os soldados.
William Holden, sempre um ótimo ator, vive Alvarez Kelly, uma espécie de anti herói charmoso e corajoso. Richard Widmark é o Coronel Tom Rossiter, o líder dos rebeldes. Para parecer mau, usa um tapa olho e tem uma cicatriz enorme no rosto. Ah, a ingenuidade daqueles tempos.
O terceiro personagem é o Major Albert Stedman (Patrick O’Neal), o comandante do exército da União que desde o início despreza Kelly e seus negócios.
O filme tem várias personagens femininas interessantes: Janice Rule, Victoria Shaw e Stephanie Hill são as atrizes. Claro que todas as personagens mulheres caem nos braços do aventureiro Kelly.
O final do filme é empolgante. A solução encontrada por Dmytryk para a aventura de ALVAREZ KELLY foi excelente. São cenas que conjugam aventura, emoção e os valores que os bons westerns sempre consagram.
ALVAREZ KELLY é um personagem a ser lembrado.

The third character is Major Albert Stedman (Patrick O’Neal), the commander of the Union army who from the beginning despises Kelly and his business.
The film has several interesting female characters: Janice Rule, Victoria Shaw and Stephanie Hill are the actresses. Of course, all the female characters fall into the arms of the adventurer Kelly.
The end of the film is exciting. The solution found by Dmytryk for ALVAREZ KELLY’s adventure was excellent. These are scenes that combine adventure, emotion and the values that good westerns always enshrine.
