HOMBRE; Um Western Denso e Melancólico com Paul Newman

Revi ontem na Amazon Prime Video o western HOMBRE, que o cineasta Martin Ritt dirifiu em 1967.

Paul Newman no auge vive John Russell, um homem branco criado por índios Apaches em uma reserva, é desprezado pelos companheiros em uma viagem de diligência, até que são assaltados por bandoleiros e ele se torna a única esperança de sobrevivência.

HOMBRE é um filme clássico. Foi um western que expôs o genocídio dos nativos americanos, assim como o racismo e o preconceito de que Russell é vítima pelos brancos na diligência.

Martin Ritt foi um excelente cineasta. São dele filmes de conteúdo humanista incrível, como TESTA DE FERRO POR ACASO, CONRACK e Norma Rae. Mas ele fez outros clássicos como O ESPIÃO QUE VEIO DO FRIO e outro Paul Newman clássico HUD (O INDOMADO).

HOMBRE tem no elenco Melvyn Douglas, o incrível Richard Boone, Patricia Neal, Brandon de Wilde (o menino de SHANE), Whit Bissell e Val Avery.

É um filme muito denso, em que as longas esperas servem para a reflexão sobre as propostas da trama. Os bandidos não são apenas os bandoleiros.

HOMBRE se tornou um clássico. Segue sendo.

Yesterday I reviewed the western HOMBRE on Amazon Prime Video, which filmmaker Martin Ritt directed in 1967.

Paul Newman in his prime lives John Russell, a white man raised by Apache Indians on a reservation, is scorned by his companions on a stagecoach trip, until they are robbed by bandits and he becomes their only hope for survival.

HOMBRE is a classic movie. It was a western that exposed the genocide of Native Americans, as well as the racism and prejudice that Russell is victimized by whites in the stagecoach.

Martin Ritt was an excellent filmmaker. His are films with incredible humanist content, such as THE FRONT, CONRACK and Norma Rae. But he did other classics like THE SPY WHO CAME FROM THE COLD and another Paul Newman classic HUD.

HOMBRE stars Melvyn Douglas, Richard Boone, Patricia Neal, Brandon de Wilde (SHANE‘s boy), Whit Bissell and Val Avery.

It is a very dense film, in which the long waits serve to reflect on the plot proposals. Bandits are not just the assailants.

HOMBRE has become a classic. It still is.
