Adoro ver ou rever filmes antigos. Especialmente dos gêneros que mais gosto. O western é um deles. A Amazon Prime Video tem em seu cardápio, o filme que J.lee Thompson fez em 1969, O OURO DE MACKENNA.
Thompson era um cineasta inglês que fez 49 filmes. Marcou seu nome pelo clássico OS CANHÕES DE NAVARONE, um dos grande filmes de guerra de todos os tempos. Mas também fez muita coisa ruim, como O MAGNATA GREGO e O GRANDE BÚFALO BRANCO.
Em O OURO DE MACKENNA, Hollywood parece ter reunido todos os atores que estavam disponíveis. Olha que elenco: Gregory Peck, Omar Shariff, Anthony Quayle, Telly Savalas, Edward G. Robinson, Eli Wallach, Keenan Wynn, Ted Cassidy, Lee J. Cobb, Julie Newmar (a Mulher Gato da série Batman dos anos 60) e Burgess Meredith.
Um xerife acidentalmente vê o mapa que um velho índio apache carrega revelando o local onde estava guardado todo o ouro dos apaches. Ele é sequestrado por um bandoleiro que o força a levá-los até o ouro.
A história por si só já sem pé nem cabeça, é muito mal roteirizada e pessimamente filmada. O grupo é perseguido pelo exército, pelos apaches, por bandoleiros e pelas maldições dos espíritos. É muita coisa junta.
Para completar, os efeitos especiais que integram o filme de Thompson são péssimos, mesmo se considerando que o filme foi feito em 1969. Coisa de filme amador.
A única consequência do filme é relembrar que ótimos atores fizeram filmes muito ruins. Para provar este fato, O OURO DE MACKENNA funcionou à perfeição.

Thompson was an English filmmaker who made 49 films. He made his name for the classic THE GUNS OF NAVARONE, one of the all-time great war movies. But he also did a lot of bad stuff, like THE GREEK TYCOON and THE GREAT WHITE BUFFALO.
In MACKENNA’S GOLD, Hollywood seems to have assembled every actor that was available. Look at the cast: Gregory Peck, Omar Shariff, Anthony Quayle, Telly Savalas, Edward G. Robinson, Eli Wallach, Keenan Wynn, Ted Cassidy, Lee J. Cobb, Julie Newmar (Catwoman from the 60s Batman series) and Burgess Meredith.
A sheriff accidentally sees the map carried by an old Apache Indian revealing the location of all the Apache gold. He is kidnapped by a bandit who forces him to lead them to the gold.
The story itself is already without foot or head, it is very poorly scripted and terribly filmed. The group is pursued by the army, the Apaches, bandits and the curses of the spirits. It’s a lot together.
To complete, the special effects that are part of Thompson’s film are terrible, even considering that the film was made in 1969. Amateur film stuff.
The only consequence of the film is a reminder that great actors also made very bad films. To prove this fact, MACKENNA’S GOLD worked perfectly.
