Está em cartaz no NOW, a comédia dramática CASAMENTO EM FAMÍLIA (MAYBE I DO), que o produtor e roteirista americano Michael Jacobs dirigiu em 2023. Jacobs ficou conhecido por trabalhos na Broadway e por ter sido indicado ao Oscar como Produtor de QUIZ SHOW.
Aqui ele conta a história de dois jovens que moram juntos e chegaram ao ponto de casar ou se separar. A moça (Emma Roberts, a sobrinha amis famosa de Julia) é Michelle a menina que pressiona o indeciso Allen (Luke Bracey, fraquinho) a tomar a iniciativa de pedi-la em casamento.
O que eles não sabem é que os casamento dos pais deles estão atravessando grave crise. A mãe de Michelle (Diane Keaton sempre ótima) mal fala com o marido Howard (Richard Gere divertido) e se envolve com outro homem casado, o amargurado Sam (William H. Macy, o melhor do filme). A mãe de Allen, Monica (Susan Sarandon linda) está tendo um caso extra conjugal justamente com o pai de Michelle.
Quando os quase noivos resolvem dar um jantar para os pais se “conhecerem”, o caos está formado.
MAYBE I DO é muito melhor quando se propõe a ser engraçado. Há muitas piadas ótimas sobre a monotonia dos casamentos longos e sobre os namoros intermináveis. Há até uma divertida cena em que a personagem de Diane Keaton vê um daqueles programas de TV religiosos que diz que a infidelidade a levará ao fogo do inferno.
Quando o roteiro resolve filosofar sobre vida, na minha opinião o filme cai numa mesmice por trilhar caminhos de outras obras bem melhores.
Claro que o quarteto central segura qualquer cena. Velhos e charmosos como poucos.
MAYBE I DO é, ao mesmo tempo, uma ótima comédia e um drama bem comum.

Here he tells the story of two young people who live together and reached the point of marrying or separating. The girl (Emma Roberts, Julia’s most famous niece) is Michelle the girl who pressures the indecisive Allen (Luke Bracey, weakling) to take the initiative to propose to her.
What they don’t know is that their parents’ marriages are going through a serious crisis. Michelle’s mother (Diane Keaton always great) barely speaks to her husband Howard (a funny Richard Gere) and becomes involved with another married man, the embittered Sam (William H. Macy, the best of the film). Allen’s mother Monica (beautiful Susan Sarandon) is having an extramarital affair with Michelle’s father.
When the almost-engaged couple decided to have a dinner for their parents to “get to know each other”, chaos ensued.
MAYBE I DO is much better when it sets out to be funny. There are lots of great jokes about the monotony of long marriages and endless courtships. There’s even a very funny scene where Diane Keaton’s character watches one of those religious TV shows that says infidelity will lead her to hellfire.
When the script decides to philosophize about life, in my opinion, the film falls into a sameness for treading the paths of other, much better works.
Of course, the central quartet holds any scene. Old and charming like few others.
MAYBE I DO is both a great comedy and a very ordinary drama.
