Está em cartaz no STAR+, o filme SUNCOAST, que a cineasta Laura Chinn dirigiu, a partir de um roteiro original auto biográfico escrito por ela mesma.
Uma mãe separada enfrenta as agruras de ter o filho permanentemente acamado e inconsciente, enquanto a filha experimenta os primeiros passos e incertezas da adolescência. Como o menino vai para uma clínica médica, a jovem conhece um ativista político que protesta contra o tratamento a doentes terminais.
Existe muita dor no filme. Pela dedicatória final, a diretora e roteirista Chinn sofreu mesmo aquilo que o filme traz.
Laura Linney, que faz Kristine, a mãe problematizado é sempre uma atriz diferenciada. Woody Harrelson, que vive o atovista amadureceu muito como ator e é responsável por muitas cenas ótimas do filme, como aquele em que resolve ensinar a inquieta jovem Doris a dirigir.
A protagonista – e grande atração do filme – é a jovem Nico Parker (THE LAST OF US), que aos vinte anos é capaz de uma interpretação comovente.
Doris é um achado. Tímida, decidida, ousada, temerosa, ambiciosa, amiga, carinhosa, curiosa, dá os primeiros passos na vida adulta neste cenário trágico do irmão às portas da morte. É um trabalho notável.
SUNCOAST é daqueles filmes sem badalação que recompensam muito o espectador. Tem momentos de grande humanismo, muito raros de se ver hoje em dia, nas telas ou fora delas.

A separated mother faces the hardships of having her son permanently bedridden and unconscious, while her daughter experiences the first steps and uncertainties of adolescence. As the boy goes to a medical clinic, the young woman meets a political activist who protests against the treatment of terminally ill patients.
There is a lot of pain in the film. For the final dedication, director and screenwriter Chinn really suffered what the film brings.
Laura Linney, who plays Kristine, the troubled mother, is always a different actress. Woody Harrelson, who plays the activist, has matured a lot as an actor and is responsible for many great scenes in the film, such as the one in which he decides to teach the restless young Doris how to drive.

Doris is a treasure. Shy, determined, bold, fearful, ambitious, friendly, affectionate, curious, she takes her first steps into adulthood in this tragic scenario of her brother at death’s door. It’s a remarkable work.
SUNCOAST is one of those films without hype that really rewards the viewer. It has moments of great humanism, very rare to see nowadays, on screen or off.
