A série EXPATS, da produtora e diretora Lulu Wang, baseada no livro de Janice Y.K. Lee chegou ao seu final.
A trama mostra três mulheres vivendo em Hong Kong, que têm as vidas interligadas por uma tragédia: o desaparecimento do filho de uma delas em um mercado.
Nicole Kidman (que não pára de fazer ótimos trabalhos agora mais em séries do que em filmes), Sarayu Blue e Ji-young Yoo são as protagonistas que vão assumindo a narrativa ao logo dos seis capítulos da série. Vale a pena mencionar que alguns dos capítulos têm quase duas horas de duração.
A história é muito boa e a série foi produzida com esmero invulgar. Os cenários de Hong Kong são uma bela moldura para o drama das três mulheres.
Neste sexto e último episódio, há uma cena em particular cinematograficamente brilhante. Margaret, a personagem de Nicole Kidman chega a um restaurante e senta em uma mesa de dois lugares. Pouco depois chega a personagem Mercy. Mas quando as duas começam a conversar, há cenas em que está à mesa a personagem Hilary, como se as três mulheres estivessem a conversar entre si. Enebriante.
EXPATS é uma série refinada e cheia de sutilezas e achados cinematográficos.
Não deve aparecer em qualquer lista das mais vistas.
Mas é um trabalho altamente digno, criativo e provocativo.
Merece muito ser vista.
The EXPATS series, by producer and director Lulu Wang, based on the book by Janice Y.K. Lee has reached his end.
The plot shows three women living in Hong Kong, whose lives are interconnected by a tragedy: the disappearance of one of their children in a market.
Nicole Kidman (who continues to do great work now more in series than in films), Sarayu Blue and Ji-young Yoo are the protagonists who take over the narrative throughout the six chapters of the series. It’s worth mentioning that some of the chapters are almost two hours long.
The story is very good and the series was produced with unusual care. The Hong Kong settings are a beautiful frame for the drama of the three women.
In this sixth and final episode, there is one particular scene that is cinematically brilliant. Margaret, Nicole Kidman’s character, arrives at a restaurant and sits at a two-seater table. Shortly after, the character Mercy arrives. But when the two start talking, there are scenes where the character Hilary is at the table, as if the three women were talking to each other. Intoxicating.
EXPATS is a refined series full of subtleties and cinematic findings.
It should not appear on any most viewed list.
But it is highly worthy, creative and provocative work.
It really deserves to be seen.
