A ótima atriz Thomasin Mackenzie (de JOJO RABBIT e LAST NIGHT IN SOHO) vive Eileen Dunlop, uma jovem que, nos anos 60, tem um emprego horrível em uma penitenciária juvenil, suporta o pai bêbado, hostil e com sinais de demência e fantasia encontros sexuais que nunca se realizam.
A vida de Eileen vai mudar quando chega ao presídio a nova psiquiatra, Rebecca (Anne Hathaway, sempre fascinante), uma mulher libertária, formada em Harvard, cheia de novidades para aquela pequena cidade perdida no interior de Massachusetts. Ela bebe, fuma, diz palavrões, contesta as regras e se veste como uma mulher a frente do seu tempo.
A duas formam um elo imediato. Rebecca fascina Eileen por ser tudo o que ela queria ser. Eileen fascina Rebecca pelo seu afeto e por ter uma chama meio fora da curva em seu comportamento errático.
Na penitenciária há um jovem que matou brutalmente seu pai enquanto dormia. O caso – que já fascinava Eileen, torna-se o foco de atenção para Rebecca.
EILEEN é um filme noir até a alma. Tudo é escuro, abafado e sufocante. Todos os personagens são meio dark, deprimidos e prejudicados pela vida.
Até a fotografia do filme parece ser escura e lavada demais.
O elenco, ótimo colabora muito. Destaque para Shea Whigham, Sam Nivola, Siobhan Fallon Hogan e Owen Teague.

Eileen’s life will change when the new psychiatrist, Rebecca (Anne Hathaway, always fascinating), a libertarian woman, graduated from Harvard, full of news for that small town lost in the interior of Massachusetts, arrives at the prison. EILEEN is film noir to the core. Everything is dark, stuffy and suffocating. All the characters are kind of dark, depressed and damaged by life.
Even the film’s photography appears to be too dark and washed out.
The cast, excellent, collaborates a lot. Highlights include Shea Whigham, Sam Nivola, Siobhan Fallon Hogan and Owen Teague.
