ALIEN ROMULUS: Cineasta Uruguaio Faz Capítulo Digno da Franquia do Monstro Espacial

Eu gosto demais dos dois primeiros filmes da franquia ALIEN: O OITAVO PASSAGEIRO, de Ridley Scott e ALIENS, de James Cameron são exemplares brilhantes de cinema, com muitas cenas que sobrevivem em nossa memória mais de 45 anos depois de serem feitas.

Acho que o monstro babão vem sendo maltratado no cinema. Houve um sem número de filmes que se limitavam a explorar a mitologia ALIEN, sem maior criatividade. Acho bem ruim, por exemplo, o filme PROMETHEUS, do mesmo Ridley Scott, que tinha um elenco soberbo e uma história bem nada a ver.

ALIEN ROMULUS, que chega ao streaming, é dirigido pelo inquieto cineasta uruguaio Fede Alvarez, um sujeito que já mostrou controlar o suspense e o medo nos filmes que faz.

A história não difere muito das anteriores. Aqui, um grupo de jovens mineiros quer retornar ao planeta onde se livrarão da virtual escravidão insalubre de trabalhar para a Companhia, um mega corporação que explora o trabalho deles na mineração, até morrer.

Descobrem uma nave abandonada e lá se vão em busca da liberdade.

Mas havia um monstro no meio do caminho. O ALIEN vai matando um a um, como sabemos que vai acontecer. Até o duelo final.

Um dos acertos do filme de Alvarez é ser respeitoso e homenagear seguidamente o primeiro filme da franquia. A heroína Rain (Cailee Spaeny, de PRISCILLA) em tudo lembra a Tenente Ripley, principalmente em sua resistência inquebrantável aos ataques do monstro. É um duelo tipo faroeste . No espaço.

Tem muitas citações do capítulo um, como o androide de Ian Holm (“vocês contam com minha simpatia”), objetos de cena, os corredores longos, úmidos onde o monstro adora se esconder, sustos a granel e a cena final no traje espacial.

Gostei bastante. Acho que é candidato a terceiro melhor filme da franquia. O que não é pouco. Uma ótima aventura de ficção científica mesclada com terror.

Outra coisa boa é nos lembrar que no universo, há vilões piores que o Alien, como aqueles que escravizam as pessoas em proveito próprio.

I really like the first two films in the ALIEN franchise: ALIEN, by Ridley Scott, and ALIENS, by James Cameron, are brilliant examples of cinema, with many scenes that survive in our memory more than 45 years after they were made.

I think that the drooling monster has been mistreated in cinema. There have been countless films that have limited themselves to exploring the ALIEN mythology, without much creativity. I think, for example, the film PROMETHEUS, by the same Ridley Scott, was really bad, as it had a superb cast and a completely weak story.

ALIEN ROMULUS, which is coming to streaming, is directed by the restless Uruguayan filmmaker Fede Alvarez, a guy who has already shown that he can control suspense and fear in the films he makes.

The story is not very different from the previous ones. Here, a group of young miners want to return to the planet where they will free themselves from the unhealthy virtual slavery of working for the Company, a mega corporation that exploits their labor in mining, until they die.

They discover an abandoned spaceship and set off in search of freedom.

But there was a monster in the way. The ALIEN kills them one by one, as we know will happen. Until the final duel.

One of the successes of Alvarez’s film is that it is respectful and pays homage to the first film in the franchise. The heroine Rain (Cailee Spaeny, from PRISCILLA) is reminiscent of Lieutenant Ripley in every way, especially in her unbreakable resistance to the monster’s attacks. It’s a Western-style duel. In space.

There are many references to chapter one, such as Ian Holm‘s android (“you have my sympathy”), props, the long, damp corridors where the monster loves to hide, lots of scares and the final scene in the spacesuit.

I really liked it. I think it’s a candidate for the third best film in the franchise. Which is saying something. A great science fiction adventure mixed with horror.

Another good thing is that in the universe, there are worse villains than the Alien, such as those who enslave people for their own benefit.

ALIEN ROMULUS fulfills his role.
