O AMAZON PRIME VIDEO me sugeriu ver o filme ATÉ QUE A MORTE NOS SEPARE, de Robert Altman. Mais uma vez, tive que agradecer ao algoritmo pela bela sugestão que me deu.
Robert Altman é um dos meus cineastas favoritos. São dele obras primas como M.A.S.H., UM PERIGOSO ADEUS e TRÊS MULHERES. Em 1998 ele adaptou para o cinema um texto pouco conhecido do escritor megastar John Grisham, chamado GINGERBREAD MAN.
É a história de uma advogado da cidade de Savannah (prestes a enfrentar um furacão) que se envolve com uma mulher linda e misteriosa e, na manhã seguinte fica sabendo que o pai dela é um violento psicopata que lhe persegue de forma permanente.
Ao tentar ajudar a moça, ele vê sua vida pessoal e profissional entrar em graves problemas criminais.
Kenneth Bragnah (sempre um ator que vale a pena ver), Robert Downey Jr. (ótimo mesmo na fase de baixa de sua carreira), a linda atriz Embeth Davidtz (A LISTA DE SCHINDLER e THE FRACTURE), a eterna sereia Daryl Hannah, Robert Duvall, Famke Jansen e Tom Berenger fazem o cast fora de série.
A maestria de Altman se mostra mais uma vez quando ele alterna os momentos de tensão dramática do enredo com as cenas do furacão chegando à cidade. O clima tempestuoso é quase um personagem a mais do filme.
A história complexa – que obriga o espectador a prestar máxima atenção para entender – termina tendo uma solução simples, quase banal. Mas até lá, o filme consegue gerar uma tensão e um suspense de excelência.
ATÉ QUE A MORTE NOS SEPARE é um ótimo filme policial, embora na filmografia de um gênio não esteja na primeira linha de seus trabalhos.

It is the story of a Savannah lawyer (city that is about to face a hurricane) who gets involved with a beautiful, mysterious woman, and in the next morning learns that her father is a violent psychopath who persecutes her permanently. .
While trying to help the girl, he sees his personal and professional life get into serious criminal trouble.
Kenneth Bragnah (always a worthwhile actor), Robert Downey Jr. (great even at the low point of his career), beautiful actress Embeth Davidtz (SCHINDLER’S LIST and THE FRACTURE), the eternal mermaid Daryl Hannah, Robert Duvall, Famke Jansen and Tom Berenger make the outstanding cast.
Altman’s mastery shows once again as he alternates the moments of dramatic plot tension with hurricane scenes hitting the city. The stormy weather is almost an extra character in the movie.
The complex story – which forces the viewer to pay the utmost attention to understand – ends up with a simple, almost banal solution. But until then, the film can generate tension and a suspense of excellence.
GINGERBREAD MAN is a great thriller, although in a genius filmography it is not in the first line of his work.
