NAS TRILHAS DA AVENTURA: Western Cômico de John Sturges Virou Cult Movie

Em 1965, o cineasta californiano John Sturges dirigiu uma superprodução da The Mirisch Company, distribuída pela United Artists que se propunha a ser um western cômico. O slogan publicitário era “Veja como o Oeste era Engraçado.” O filme era NAS TRILHAS DA AVENTURA, western que narrava os primórdios da Corrida do Ouro Americana, onde milhares de garimpeiros foram para o inexplorado Oeste em busca de ouro.

Os grupos envolvidos na Corrida do Ouro eram o de garimpeiros e mineiros, o exército americano, os índios do local e as mulheres da Temperance League. O objeto de discórdia era um grande carregamento de whisky destinado ao oeste.

O elenco era soberbo: Burt Lancaster (o oscarizado ator de ELMER GANTRY muito mais conhecido por papeis heróicos), Lee Remick (ANATOMIA DE UM CRIME), Jim Hutton, Pamela Tiffin, Donald Pleasance, Brian Keith, Martin Landau e Robert J.Wilke.

Uma das maiores atrações do filme era a trilha sonora, cuja autoria gerou nestes dias uma divertida conversa entre meus grandes amigos e cinéfilos Isaac Menda e Ernani Back: quem seria o autor daquela banda musical que virou clássica? Era ninguém mais ninguém menos do que o novaiorquino Elmer Berstein, autor de trilhas inesquecíveis (tem registradas 255 trilhas sonoras como autor no IMDB), como O HOMEM DO BRAÇO DE OURO, SETE HOMENS E UM DESTINO, O SOL É PARA TODOS e FUGINDO DO INFERNO.

John Sturges ficou conhecido por dramas épicos e filmes “masculinos”, como FUGINDO DO INFERNO, SEM LEI E SEM ALMA, SETE HOMENS E UM DESTINO e QUANDO EXPLODEM AS PAIXÕES. Aqui ele mostra um inesperado e surpreendente senso de humor e ironia, desconstruindo os estereótipos do western clássico, como índios, garimpeiros, soldados e as mulheres que viviam no inóspito western americano.

NAS TRILHAS DA AVENTURA é um excelente filme. Na época foi lançado com grande campanha publicitária que, entre outros aspectos, destacava a fotografia em ULTRA PANAVISION, uma tecnologia de excelência para mostrar os grandes cannyons do oeste americano.

Não é fácil encontrar NAS TRILHAS DA AVENTURA. depois de muitos anos, consegui um DVD da MGM com o filme. Revê-lo, depois de tantos anos, foi delicioso.

The groups involved in the Gold Rush were gold miners, the US Army, local Indians, and the Temperance League women. The object of contention was a large shipment of whiskey destined for the west.

It was none other than New Yorker Elmer Berstein, author of unforgettable tracks (has recorded 255 soundtracks as an author on IMDB), such as THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM,THE SEVEN MAGNIFICENT, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD and THE GREAT ESCAPE.

John Sturges has been known for epic dramas and “male” movies, such as THE GREAT ESCAPE, GUNFIGHT AT O.K. CORRAL, THE SEVEN MAGNIFICENT and NEVER SO FEW. Here she shows an unexpected and surprising sense of humor and irony, deconstructing all the stereotypes of the classic western, such as Indians, miners, soldiers, and the women living in the inhospitable Western America.

THE HALLELUJAH TRAIL is a great movie. At the time it was released with a major advertising campaign that, among other things, featured the photography in ULTRA PANAVISION, a technology of excellence to shows like no other the great cannyons of the American West.

It is not easy to find in the THE HALLELUJAH TRAIL. After many years, I got a MGM DVD with the movie. Reviewing it after so many years was delicious.
