Hoje a atriz inglesa Jenny Agutter está fazendo 67 anos. Um dos seus melhores papéis é o da garota Jill Mason que seduz o problemático Alan Strang no maravilhoso filme EQUUS, de Sidney Lumet.
Lumet levou às telas em 1977 o texto da multi premiada peça teatral de Peter Shaffer sobre um psiquiatra que é encarregado de tratar um jovem criminoso (Peter Firth nada menos que perfeito) que inexplicavelmente cegou seis cavalos no estábulo onde trabalhava, apesar de ser apaixonado por cavalos desde a infância.
A princípio catatônico, o jovem aos poucos começa a se abrir com o veterano e desiludido psiquiatra Martin Dysart(criação espetacular de Richard Burton, provavelmente em seu melhor trabalho), clareando os motivos que o levaram a cometer este crime bárbaro.
EQUUS ainda tem no elenco os ótimos Colin Blakely (impressionante como o pai do jovem), Joan Plowright (a mãe), Harry Andrews, Eileen Atkins e Kate Reid.
Nunca vi EQUUS no teatro, onde dizem que o recurso de mostrar menos do que sugerir enriqueceu ainda mais o texto maravilhoso de Shaffer. Anos atrás o ator de HARRY POTTER, Daniel Radcliffe viveu Alan Strang nos palcos ingleses e na Broadway. Infelizmente, a nudez do ator tomou o lugar principal das matérias.
A cena de sexo de EQUUS, o filme é impactante, forte, bela, sensual, contundente e fundamental para o filme. Além de ser filmada de forma belíssima, com uma luz extraordinária. Assim também o são os eternos monólogos do psiquiatra Dysart, em claro escuro, verdadeiros tratados sobre felicidade, frustração e culpa.
EQUUS foi um grande fracasso nas bilheterias. Mesmo assim, recebeu três indicações ao Oscar (Burton, Firth e Shaffer), venceu dois Gloobos de Ouro (Burton e Firth), um BAFTA (Agutter) e vários outros prêmios internacionais.
