Em 1974, o genial cineasta Mel Brooks fez o filme BANZÉ NO OESTE (BLAZZING SADDLES ou SELAS ARDENTES) focando seu humor anárquico e iconoclasta nos filmes de western.
Um Xerife negro chega à confusa cidade comandada por um rico e corrupto industrial, interessado em expulsar os proprietários de terra, visando um lucro gigantesco com a venda para a Estrada de Ferro que está chegando. Para sobreviver, ele é obrigado a contratar como ajudante um pistoleiro muito rápido com problemas de alcoolismo.Gene Wilder, Cleavon Little, o próprio Mel Brooks. Slim Pickens, Harvey Korman, Madeline Khan e Alex Carras fazem um elenco absolutamente hilário.
Não sobra intacto nenhum dos ícones dos filmes de western: índios, bebidas alcoólicas, estrada de ferro, duelos, pistoleiros, homens fortões, prostitutas, saloons, diligências, seja o que for.
BANZÉ NO OESTE não fez o sucesso que outros filmes de Brooks fizeram. Acho que temas mais “pesados” colocados em uma comédia, como racismo e corrupção em altos escalões afastaram um pouco o público.
De qualquer sorte, rever o filme, depois de 46 anos de seu lançamento, mais uma vez revela a excelência cômica de Mel Brooks, um cineasta que fez como poucos a sátira aos gêneros cinematográficos.
BANZÉ NO OESTE é uma bela comédia.
In 1974, the brilliant filmmaker Mel Brooks made the film BLAZING SADDLES focusing his anarchic and iconoclastic humor in western films.
A black sheriff arrives at the confused city under the command of a wealthy and corrupt industrialist, interested in evicting landowners, aiming at a gigantic profit from the sale to the upcoming Railway. In order to survive, he is forced to hire a very fast gunslinger with alcoholism problems as a helper. Gene Wilder, Cleavon Little, Mel Brooks himself. Slim Pickens, Harvey Korman, Madeline Khan and Alex Carras make an absolutely hilarious cast.
None of the western movie icons are left untouched: Indians, liquor, railroad, duels, gunmen, tough men, prostitutes, saloons, stagecoaches, whatever.
BLAZING SADDLES did not succeed as other Brooks films did. I think that more “heavy” themes placed in a comedy, such as racism and corruption in high power governments, put the audience a little bit away.
In any case, reviewing the film, 46 years after its release, once again reveals the comic excellence of Mel Brooks, a filmmaker who made satire on cinematographic genres like few.
BLAZING SADDLES is an hilarious comedy.
