Em 20 de junho de 1909, na Tasmania, Austrália, nasceu Errol Leslie Thomson Flynn, o Errol Flynn, um dos maiores nomes do Star System hollywoodiano das décadas de 40 e 50, contratado exclusivo da Warner Bros., notável por seus filmes de aventureiros, piratas e capa e espada. Decadente, imerso em álcool e drogas, morreu precocemente, aos 50 anos, de um ataque cardíaco.
Em seu período na Warner, Errol Flynn fez ao menos dois filmes antológicos de aventuras: O CAPITÃO BLOOD (1935) e AS AVENTURAS DE ROBIN HOOD (1938), ambos dirigidos pelo húngaro Michael Curtiz).
Em O CAPITÃO BLOOD, um médico inglês é condenado injustamente por traição e deportado para a Jamaica. Ali, ele é comprado como escravo pela filha do Governador (Olivia de Havilland, etérea como Arabella Bishop), volta a trabalhar como médico e vira pirata ao roubar um navio espanhol que atacava a ilha, passando a liderar um grupo de corsários na luta contra a injustiça e, posteriormente, em defesa do Reino Unido contra a França. O antológico inimigo e vilão era Levasseur, um cruel e sanguinário pirata vivido por Basil Rathbone. O roteiro era do italiano Rafael Sabatini (SCRAMOUCHE e O FALCÃO DOS MARES).
AS AVENTURAS DE ROBIN HOOD até hoje disputa o posto de melhor filme entre as dezenas que trouxeram a história lendária do nobre Robin de Locksley que vira fora da lei para enfrentar as injustiças que o Príncipe John (Claude Rains) e Sir Guy de Gisborne (Basil Rathbone) praticam contra os saxões, ma ausência do Rei Ricardo (Ian Hunter), que partira para as Cruzadas. Robin Hood, o bandido da Floresta de Sherwood, apaixonada pela linda Lady Marian (Olivia de Havilland, belíssima) e roubando dos ricos para dar aos pobres, acompanhado do Frei Tuck (Eugene Palette), Will Scarllet (Patrick Knowles) e do pequeno John (Alan Hale).
Flynn ainda viveu o general Custer no filme de Raoul Walsh e fez outros filmes clássicos, tendo como tema a guerra (UM PUNHADO DE BRAVOS), aventuras (SANGUE E PRATA), Don Juan (AS AVENTURAS DE DON JUAN) e marinheiros (CONTRA TODAS AS BANDEIRAS). Em seus curtos 50 anos de vida, fez 64 filmes.
Errol Flynn é, até hoje, um ator símbolo do cinema de aventuras.
On June 20, 1909, in Tasmania, Australia, Errol Leslie Thomson Flynn was born, Errol Flynn, one of the biggest names in the Hollywood Star System of the 40s and 50s, an exclusive Warner Bros. actor, notable for his adventurer films, pirates and cape and sword. Decadent, immersed in alcohol and drugs, he died early, at 50, of a heart attack.

In CAPTAIN BLOOD, an English doctor is unjustly convicted of treason and deported to Jamaica. There, he is bought as a slave by the Governor’s daughter (Olivia de Havilland, ethereal as Arabella Bishop), returns to work as a doctor and becomes a pirate when stealing a Spanish ship that attacked the island, starting to lead a group of privateers in the fight against injustice and subsequently in the UK’s defense against France. The anthological enemy and villain was Levasseur, a cruel and bloodthirsty pirate played by Basil Rathbone. The script was by the Italian Rafael Sabatini (SCARAMOUCHE and THE SEA HAWK).
THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD to this day dispute the post of best film among the dozens that brought the legendary story of the noble Robin de Locksley who turns outlaw to face the injustices that Prince John (Claude Rains) and Sir Guy de Gisborne (Basil Rathbone) practice against the Saxons, in the absence of King Richard Lionheart (Ian Hunter), who left for the Crusades.
