Dia destes revi pela milésima vez SPARTACUS, mais uma das obras primas de Stanley Kubrick.
Trata-se de um filme extraordinário. Ao ler os créditos do filme é fácil perceber porque. O cineasta Stanley Kubrick é um gênio do cinema. Um diretor que fez meia dúzia de obras primas das telas, como 2001, UMA ODISSÉIA NO ESPAÇO, DOUTOR FANTÁSTICO, GLÓRIA FEITA DE SANGUE, BARRY LINDON, LARANJA MECÂNICA, O ILUMINADO, só para citar alguns.
O roteiro (brilhantíssimo) é de Dalton Trumbo, uma lenda de Hollywood. A música é de Alex North. A fotografia é de Russell Metty. O filme foi indicado a seis Oscars e ganhou 4 (Ator Coadjuvante para Peter Ustinov, Figurino, Fotografia e Direção de Arte). venceu o Globo de Ouro de Melhor Filme.
O elenco é impressionante: Kirk Douglas (em seu melhor trabalho), Laurence Olivier, Peter Ustinov, Toni Curtis, Jean Simmons (lindíssima como Varínia), Charles Laughton, John Gavin, John Ireland, Herbert Lom, Woody Strode, Nina Foch e John Dall.
Não há como não mencionar o brilhantismo das insinuações das entrelinhas do roteiro sobre homossexualidade (o diálogo entre Crassus e Antoninus é um momento inesquecível), corrupção, vaidade e idealismo. Há numerosas cenas inesquecíveis e que legaram muito (“Eu sou Spatacus”dito por cada escravo que queria morrer no lugar de seu líder). O texto é da antologia do cinema.
O filme é lindo, emocionante, tenso, dinâmico, brilhantemente realizado e filmado.
SPARTACUS é um dos maiores clássicos do gênero e merece seu lugar entre os melhores filmes de todos os tempos.

This is an extraordinary film. When reading the credits of the film it is easy to see why. Filmmaker Stanley Kubrick is a film genius. A director who made half a dozen masterpieces of the canvases, such as 2001, DOCTOR STRANGELOVE, PATHS OF GLORY, BARRY LINDON, CLOCKWORK ORNAGE, THE SHINNING, just to mention some of them.
The (brilliantly) script is by Dalton Trumbo, a Hollywood legend. The music is by Alex North. The photograph is by Russell Metty. The film was nominated for six Oscars and won 4 (Supporting Actor for Peter Ustinov, Costume Design, Photography and Art Direction). won the Golden Globe for Best Picture.
The cast is impressive: Kirk Douglas (in his best work), Laurence Olivier, Peter Ustinov, Toni Curtis, Jean Simmons (beautiful as Varinia), Charles Laughton, John Gavin, John Ireland, Herbert Lom, Woody Strode, Nina Foch and John Dall.
It is impossible not to mention the brilliance of the insinuations between the lines of the script about homosexuality (the dialogue between Crassus and Antoninus is an unforgettable moment), corruption, vanity and idealism.
