A mini série de 4 capítulos original da HBO MAX, QUEM ERA ELA? (THE GIRL BEFORE) é uma ótima trama policial contando a história paralela de duas mulheres na Londres atual que, em períodos diferentes, viram locatárias da mesma casa, uma maravilhosa construção feita pelo arquiteto Edward Monkford (David Oyelovo).
As duas mulheres são uma executiva de PR chamada Jane (a atriz inglesa Gugu Mbatha-Raw sempre excelente) e Emma, uma diretora de marketing de uma agência (Jessica Plummer).
Emma tem uma história trágica. Tinha sido vítima de um assalto brutal meses atrás por um criminoso que aparentemente também lhe estuprara, o que fez ela e o namorado buscar uma nova vida na casa maravilhosa que o arquiteto aluga sob rigorosas condições contratuais.
Jane, que aluga a casa 3 anos depois de Emma, também tem o trauma de ter perdido uma filha na fase final de gestação. Igualmente quer mudar de vida e vê na casa a possibilidade de se renovar.
As duas, cada uma a seu tempo, resolvem se submeter às exigências, no mínimo estranhas do arquiteto, para poder alugar a casa.
A história das duas mulheres vai sendo contada em paralelo, de forma muito bem pensada e engenhosamente editada na série.
Usando a arquitetura da casa ( e sua infra estrutura tecnológica altamente avançada como elementos dramáticos, a série concebida e criada por JP Delaney é outro conto de assustadora modernidade.
Até que ponto as pessoas se submetem para ter acesso às coisas que desejam?
O final da série reserva algumas surpresas.

The original 4-chapter miniseries from HBO MAX, THE GIRL BEFORE is a great thriller plot telling the parallel story of two women in present-day London who, at different times, became tenants of the same house, a wonderful construction made by architect Edward Monkford (David Oyelovo).
The two women are a PR executive named Jane (the ever-excellent English actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw) and Emma, an agency marketing director (Jessica Plummer).
Emma has a tragic history. She had been the victim of a brutal robbery months ago by a criminal who had apparently also raped her, which made her and her boyfriend seek a new life in the wonderful house that the architect rents under strict contractual conditions.
Jane, who rents the house 3 years after Emma, also has the trauma of having lost a daughter in her final stages of pregnancy. She also wants to change her life and sees in the house the possibility of renewing herself.
The two, each in their own time, decide to submit to the architect’s requirements, at least strange, in order to rent the house.
The story of the two women is being told in parallel, in a very well thought out and ingeniously edited way in the series.
Using the house’s architecture (and its highly advanced technological infrastructure) as dramatic elements, the series conceived and created by JP Delaney is another tale of haunting modernity.
