Em 1974, entrei no Cine São João (Avenida senador Salgado Filho esquina Rua Vigário José Inácio), para ver o filme OPERAÇÃO YAKUZA (THE YAKUZA), dirigido por sidney Pollack, com Robert Mitchum e Ken Takakura. Com 15 anos de idade, era o primeiro filme que via sobre a Máfia Japonesa. Lembro que saí vivamente impressionado com uma cena de entrada de um personagem na Yakuza, onde ele corta a falange do dedo mindinho da mão, para demonstrar comprometimento e fidelidade.
DÍVIDA PERIGOSA (THE OUTSIDER), do dinamarquês Martin Zandvliet, em cartaz na NETFLIX, retoma o tema do gaijin (estrangeiro) que entra na Yakuza. Tem três cenas de decepação voluntária da falange.
Jared Leto (sem dúvida um dos talentos da atual geração de atores) vive o americano Nick Lowell, condenado a uma pena de prisão no Japão, logo após o término da Segunda Guerra Mundial. Ali, ele ajuda a salvar um poderoso membro da Yakuza, Kyioshi (Tadanobu Asano). Quando Nick deixa a prisão, é levado para trabalhar na família de Kyioshi na Yakuza.
As idas e vindas de Nick – metido em uma guerra entre as famílias locais pelo controle do tráfico de drogas e armas – não fogem muito ao padrão dos filmes do gênero. O talento de Jared Leto ajuda muito a ver o filme até o final.
Dois aspectos me chamaram a atenção. Toda hora no filme, os membros da Yakuza questionam a participação de um gaijin (não japonês). Preconceito também existe de lá para cá. Pelo menos me recordou o maravilhoso filme brasileiro da cineasta Tizuka Yamasaki, intitulado GAIJIN, onde fiquei sabendo o que a palavra significa.
O segundo aspecto é o amor de Nick pela bela Miyu (Shioli Kutsuna). Os dois são pessoas sozinhas e marginalizadas. Mas o afeto que brota entre eles é real e move montanhas.
THE OUTSIDER é um bom filme. A gente Vê com interesse e sem susto.
In 1974, I went to Cine São João (Senator Salgado Filho Ave., corner with Vigário José Inácio St.), to see the film THE YAKUZA, directed by Sidney Pollack, with Robert Mitchum and Ken Takakura. At the age of 15, it was the first film I had seen about the Japanese Mafia. I remember being very impressed with a scene when a character enters the Yakuza, where he cuts off the phalanx of the little finger of his hand, to demonstrate commitment and loyalty.
THE OUTSIDER, by Danish filmmaker Martin Zandvliet, on NETFLIX, takes up the theme of the gaijin (foreigner) who enters the Yakuza. It has three scenes of voluntary phalanx deception.
Jared Leto (undoubtedly one of the talents of the current generation of actors) plays the American Nick Lowell, sentenced to a prison term in Japan, shortly after the end of the Second World War. There, he helps save a powerful Yakuza member, Kyioshi (Tadanobu Asano). When Nick leaves prison, he is taken to work in Kyioshi’s family at the Yakuza.
The comings and goings of Nick – involved in a war between local families for control of the drug and weapons trade – are not far from the standard of films of the genre. Jared Leto’s talent helps a lot to see the movie through to the end.
Two aspects caught my attention. Every time in the film, the Yakuza members question the participation of a gaijin (non-Japanese). Prejudice has also existed from then. At least it reminded me of the wonderful Brazilian film by filmmaker Tizuka Yamasaki, entitled GAIJIN, where I learned what the word means.
The second aspect is Nick’s love for the beautiful Miyu (Shioli Kutsuna). Both are lonely and marginalized people. But the affection that blossoms between them is real and moves mountains.
THE OUTSIDER is a good movie. People watch with interest and without problem.
