SOMBRA LUNAR (IN THE SHADOW OF THE MOON), de Jim Mickle é um thriller de ficção científica em exibição na NETFLIX, cujo argumento talvez seja seu melhor ativo.
Um policial da Filadélfia se depara com uma série de assassinatos em que as vítimas aparecem com três orifícios no pescoço e morrem de uma hemorragia cerebral decorrente do envenenamento por um isótopo radioativo.
Ele e seu parceiro ficam obcecados por encontrar a criminosa, pelas descrições, uma jovem negra e atlética que entra e sai dos lugares muito rapidamente.
Para desespero deles, a primeira onda de crimes termina sem eles saberem quem era e os motivos das mortes.
O pior está por vir. Nove anos depois, a mesma jovem reaparece e comete nova onda de crimes absolutamente iguais.
O que parecia mais um thriller policial comum sobre serial killers, ganha fôlego quando começa a mostrar que a trama está mais para o terreno da ficção científica.
Acho que o ótimo argumento (que a gente somente vai ter esclarecido na cena final) merecia um elenco melhor e uma direção mais imaginativa.
Mas, embora o filme se inspire em histórias clássicas da ficção científica como O EXTERMINADOR DO FUTURO e UM SÉCULO EM 43 MINUTOS, vi o filme sem esforço.
Para quem curte o gênero, IN THE SHADOW OF THE MOON cumpre seus objetivos.
Jim Mickle‘s IN THE SHADOW OF THE MOON is a sci-fi thriller on NETFLIX whose story is perhaps its best asset.
A Philadelphia police officer is faced with a series of murders in which victims appear with three holes in their necks and die of a brain hemorrhage from radioactive isotope poisoning.
He and his partner become obsessed with finding the criminal, by the descriptions, a young, athletic black woman who moves in and out of places very quickly.
To their dismay, the first crime wave ends without them knowing who it was and the reasons for the deaths.
The worst is yet to come. Nine years later, the same young woman reappears and commits another wave of absolutely the same crimes.
What seemed more like an ordinary crime thriller about serial killers, gains momentum when it starts to show that the plot is more in the realm of science fiction.
I think the great script (which we’ll only have clarified in the final scene) deserved a better cast and a more imaginative direction.
But while the film draws inspiration from classic sci-fi stories like THE TERMINATOR and TIME AFTER TIME, I saw the film effortlessly.
For those who enjoy the genre, IN THE SHADOW OF THE MOON fulfills its goals.
