A Apple TV+ está exibindo o thriller INHERITANCE (HERANÇA), dirigido pelo cineasta Vaughn Stein, membro da equipe de Guy Ritchie na competente trilogia de Sherlock Holmes, com Robert Downey Jr. e Jude Law.
A trama traz a desconstrução de uma rica família americana quando ocorre a morte súbita do patriarca Archer Monroe (Patrick Warburton). O testamento dele guarda algumas surpresas, criando um forte clima de tensão quando revelado pelo advogado da família, Harold Thewlis (Michael Beach): a filha primogênita, a competente Promotora Pública Lauren Monroe (Lily Collins) recebe muito menos que seu irmão, o jovem político William (Chace Crawford) e que a viúva Catherine (Connie Nielsen).
Lauren ainda recebe um misterioso envelope com uma chave e a indicação para ir até uma porta na propriedade da família que leva a um porão. Lá ela encontra acorrentado Morgan Warner (Simon Pegg), um misterioso sujeito que diz ter sido o melhor amigo de seu pai até que testemunhou ela matar um jovem em um acidente de carro. Os detalhes da vida familiar que Morgan vai dando para Lauren vão sedimentando a credibilidade dele.
O dilema que se coloca para a Promotora é o que fazer com aquele homem que o pai manteve prisioneiro por trinta anos?
O enredo do filme é muito bem construído. Os detalhes da história que vão chegando a Lauren, chegam ao mesmo tempo para o espectador, que vai, como a protagonista tentando entender o que tinha acontecido.
Em meio a tudo isso, Lauren ainda tem que lidar com o marido e a filha, com as perguntas indiscretas da mãe e do irmão e com um pesado caso criminal em que participa do julgamento.
Contar algum detalhe da;i para a frente seria estragar as surpresas que o roteiro contém. Nada é o que parece em INHERITANCE.
Lily James e Simon Pegg conduzem muito bem a ação, prendendo a atenção até o final.

The plot brings the deconstruction of a wealthy American family when the sudden death of patriarch Archer Monroe (Patrick Warburton) occurs. His will holds some surprises, creating a strong atmosphere of tension when revealed by the family’s lawyer, Harold Thewlis (Michael Beach): the eldest daughter, the competent District Attorney Lauren Monroe (Lily Collins) receives much less than her brother, the young politician William (Chace Crawford) and the widow Catherine (Connie Nielsen).
Lauren still receives a mysterious envelope with a key and directions to a door on the family property that leads to a basement. There she finds Morgan Warner (Simon Pegg) in chains, a mysterious guy who claims to have been her father’s best friend until he witnessed him kill a young man in a car accident. The details of the family life that Morgan gives to Lauren will solidify his credibility.
The dilemma for the Prosecutor is what to do with that man that her father kept prisoner for thirty years?
The plot of the film is very well constructed. The details of the story that are reaching Lauren, arrive at the same time for the spectator, who goes, like the protagonist trying to understand what had happened.
In the midst of it all, Lauren still has to deal with her husband and daughter, her mother and brother’s prying questions, and a heavy criminal case in which she participates in the trial.
To tell any details from here forward would spoil the surprises that the script contains. Nothing is what it seems in INHERITANCE.
Lily James and Simon Pegg lead the action very well, holding attention until the very end.
INHERITANCE is a great thriller.
