Na década de 80, o Clube de Cinema de Porto Alegre trouxe, para uma das Mostras Internacionais de Cinema que realizou, o drama político ASSASSINATO NO SENADO DA NAÇÃO, extraordinário filme dirigido por Juan José Jusid. O filme ganhou a votação popular como o melhor daquela Mostra.
Nunca mais tinha visto o filme. Ontem, olhando o catálogo da Amazon Prime Video, me deparei com o filmaço de Jusid, em cópia restaurada. com definição 4K. Fui rever imediatamente.
Segue poderoso e contundente.
O filme narra o episódio real do assassinato do Senador Enzo Bordabehere, ocorrido em plenário no ano de 1935, durante as acaloradas discussões promovidas pelo ilustre Senador Lisandro de la Torre que via nos acordos entre o Governo e os frigoríficos ingleses para exportação da carne argentina, poderosos indícios de corrupção.
A narrativa de Jusid é primorosa. O tom dos discursos de La Torre vão subindo à medida em que ele encontra provas do escândalo que denuncia. Ao mesmo tempo, corruptos e corruptores se articulam para silenciar o denunciante.
Não seria injusto dizer que o filme e sua narrativa lembram a obra prima Z, de Costa-Gavras.
O elenco tem Pepe Soriano (magnífico como la Torre), Miguel Angel Solá, o incrível Oscar Martinez, Alberto Segado, Arturo Bonin (como Bordabehere), Rita Cortese e Marha Biachi.
O filme tem de tudo: lutas trabalhistas, ditadura, tortura, corrupção, violência contra a mulher, acordos políticos, um cardápio completo.
Quarenta e poucos anos atrás, sai emocionado depois de ver ASSASSINATO NO SENADO DA NAÇÃO. Ontem revivi esta emoção. Grande filmes não envelhecem jamais.
In the 1980s, the Porto Alegre Film Club brought the political drama MURDER IN THE SENATE (ASSASSINATO NO SENADO DA NAÇÃO), an extraordinary film directed by Juan José Jusid, to one of the International Film Festivals it produced. The film won the popular vote as the best in that Mostra.
I had never seen the movie again. Yesterday, looking at the Amazon Prime Video catalog, I came across Jusid’s footage, in a restored 4K copy. I went to review it right away.
It remains powerful and forceful.
The film narrates the real episode of the assassination of Senator Enzo Bordabehere, which took place in the plenary session in 1935, during the heated discussions promoted by the illustrious Senator Lisandro de la Torre, who saw in the agreements between the Government and the English slaughterhouses for the export of Argentine meat, powerful evidence of corruption.
Jusid’s narrative is exquisite. The tone of La Torre’s speeches rises as he finds evidence of the scandal he denounces. At the same time, corrupt and corrupters articulate to silence the whistleblower.
It wouldn’t be unfair to say that the film and its narrative are reminiscent of Costa-Gavras‘ masterpiece Z.

Forty-odd years ago, I left emotional after seeing MURDER IN THE NATION’S SENATE. Yesterday I relived this emotion. Great movies never get old.
